One of our CSX racers has a 306 CI twin turbo the puts out 760 HP to the rear wheels. Left me at the Glen like I was backing up.

It's funny - if the rib wasn't ever there, I wouldn't have worried. As it was, it hurt to have to take the grinder to my new block!

My motor made 859hp and 705lb/ft - both at 6400. The torque curved hadn't flattened out yet, so it would have made more power, but it kept breaking the damn blower belt at that point. As such, I try to shift at 6000, where it's making 805hp. This was done on a Superflow 901 engine dyno.

I have enough power now, and the 6 piston Wilwoods and 13" rotors all round pull me up well enough, but the chassis is still A LONG WAY from being dialled in, so I just hold everyone up during the corners and run away from them on the straights.....

I had a look at the gallery - there's some great stuff there. Good to see the Cobras out there being driven. Is the turbo car this one (being built in late 2001)? The chassis might look familiar...

Craig,
Unless there are two of them that's Rich Alperts CSX Dragonsnake replica. Those pictures were taken three weeks ago at Watkins Glen and it was the first time the car has ever been driven. It's a track only car as he has a BB CSX for the street.
I thought my 600 HP was fast untill Rich blew me away when he just tickled the throttle.
I may have to start thinking Turbo next.

Your car sounds like a real rocket and I like your brake system. You can't go fast unless you can stop also.

How much HP are you planning on building? A factory 71-73 windsor block is perfectly fine for 550HP it will not be the weak link, trust me. Save the money for somewhere it is more necessary.

Thanks for all the info. I have seen the ads in the magazines and have already been to Dart's web site so I have a pretty good idea what I'm getting with the block, I'm just trying to justify the expense. Another factor I had not considered is registration in Virginia with a new block in a new kit. Since I'm months away from starting I have the time to decide and plan to get the most bang for my buck.
Mr. Fixit: I'm looking at around 500 hp but I'd like a bullet-proof bottom end to start with and the Dart would alleviate a lot of worries.

Having worked with dozens of +500 Hp windsors, all built in factory blocks, I assure you that the block will not fail. Even when spun over 7000 rpm. Unless you unwrap a conrod and stuff it out the side.
