Default Original "Cobra" nodular bellhousing

I've come across an original "Cobra" lettered 6-bolt bellhousing. I'm told it is a nodular iron piece and rare.

The markings are as follow:

C5DA 6392-A

NHRA APP

289 J

WEDGE

COBRA

If someone has some additional info on this, please feel free to pass it on.

TIA

Cobra scattershields were made until the late eighties, I think. Theywere in Tony Branda's catalog. I can look for the last ione that had them listed, if need be. They are nice to have, particularly if you drag race your car. If the clutch explodes, your feet remain intact! 6-Bolt shields show up on E-
bay occasionally, $500 and up I think. 5-bolts are less frequent and can go as high as $1000 or more. What are others experience with the prices on these? Make sure you don't get on that has already been exploded. The bolt holes will be warped and the shield won't lie flat on the ground. That is an expensive and heavy paperweight! Don't ask me how I know!

Jim,

Thanks very much for the input.

Looking at the cars you list, I can guess "....how I know".

The housing is almost pristine in appearance. I'm thinking of having it magged to be sure it is solid throughout.

Don't be surprised if you see it on the auction block.

I too have one of these. I found it necessary to have the mounting surfaces parallel ground perpendicular to the centerline of the crankshaft. It was out of parallel by .018, ouch!
