GO TO THE FORD MOTORSPORT SITE OR GO TO YOUR LOCAL FORD DEALER AND GET A MOTORSPORT SVO CATALOG. IT WILL DESCRIBE THE DIFFERENT FORD BLOCKS. THEY SAY 750 HP TO 1200 HP DEPENDING WHICH SVO BLOCK.

The stock blocks are good for about 600HP when done right. The new sportsman block is good for about 900HP. There are several combinations to get the 500HP plus you want with one of these engines and still run on premiun pump fuel.

Keith, how far (hp) can a late '80's 351 go? I got one from a Crown Vic cop car, E9AE. I know after '79 the blocks got lighter. My plans are to go 393 with AFR 185 (maybe the 205's?) and if not the Performer RPM cam, something close. Strong low end 400+ torque, and top out at 6000. When I get the itch for more power I'ma thinkin' a 100-150 shot on the simple side but would rather pick up the additional hp through a blower (centrifugal) with EFI. Or would it be better when that more power itch hits to start looking for an older or Sportsman block?
TIA

Here's a link to see the specs on all the FMS blocks, including the aluminum ones, and lots of other goodies, as well.

I went with the DART iron block. The bottom end (main brg caps) are sooo much stronger than any of the FORD blocks. Both are good but the DART is stronger where it counts! I built a very conservative engine and still have over 500+hp!!
