Question ford 392 with FI

Hi Folks.

I have recently purchased the FFR coupe but have not received it yet. I am still in the planning phase for my build and it is starting to drive me crazy. Once I think I have something figured out, I read or see something that changes my mind.

I am considering putting the Ford 392 Crate motor in my coupe, but I would like to put Fuel Injection on it rather than a carb. I was originally going to use the Edelbrock FI system but after cruising the net I found a company called TWM Induction. I love the look of the TWM system, however it is a bit costly.

I am planning on driving this car on the weekends, going to car shows, and racing it occasionally both in a strait line and on road courses.

I believe technically I will not have a problem with either of these systems. I have worked on new cars for quite some time but I have never "built" a car.

Does anyone have either of these FI systems on their car? or any other information that may help?

Thanks in advance!!!

Look on Cobra Country under Cobras for Sale. There is an ad for a new TWM setup for sale and the price is right. Al

Dyland,

I don't even have a car yet, but I have done some research on EFI, as that is what I wanted to do as well. What I have heard from almost everyone, that actually has an aftermarket system, is they are a bear to tune, but once its done, its great. It helps to have a knowledgeable tuner for YOUR system and a dyno tune is a must. To clarification a little, you mentioned two different kinds of systems in that the Edelbrock is a complete system (Holley makes one too), but the TWM (Hilborn, Imagine, & verycoolparts.com are other suppliers) is just the manifold. You will need to pick/purchase some sort of controller to go with the TWM manifold. There are a host of aftermarket EFI systems and computers (MOTEC, HalTech, FAST, Accel, & Electromotive to name a few) to choose. I would suggest you do some searches on this site and the web to get the basics. Look up the controller manufacturers I mentioned and read their product info. I will tell you that I have been scared off from jumping into the EFI initially. I have an ERA on order and will initially go with a carb setup, but I'm installing a return regulator, O2 bungs in the side pipes, and possibly a crank sensor in preparation for EFI in the future.

Coupe Dylan,

Another source you might talk to is FFR. Their prototype Coupe had the combo you are considering. 392 with TVM throttle bodies. They should be able to shed some light on the electronics etc..

Mike,

I spoke with Dave at FFR and he gave me some good links:

www.verycoolparts.com and

www.twminduction.com

both are a good sorce for anyone looking at fuel injection. TWM explains very well how it works in simple terms that anyone can understand. I think I will go with the Edelbrock system because it is not terribly expensive and it comes complete with everything you need to run it.

Thanks,

Dylan
