Default vic jr or rpm airgap

well i was reading a article on the performer rpm and rpm airgap from westech, now on my 408w im using a vic jr manifold but the rpm airgap was better down low where i need it, they compared the vic jr to the airgap, vic jr made best power to 2700 then the airgap took over,at 4000rpm's vic jr made 466 ft lbs, vs airgap 486, thats big differance id say, from 2700 to 4800 the airgap won then the vic came in, 3500rpm's vic jr 449vs airgap 470, ft lbs, hum wondering if i should change to airgap and see what happens, anybody? 392 ford stroker they tested.

I guess it just depends on where you want to have your power. With a 408, I'd imagine you could run anything and still have gobs of torque. I have a hot cammed 302 and I'm in the process of swapping out my air gap for a victor jr. I was very pleased with the air gap until about 6k then it died off. I want to run to 7k strong. I can give up low end torque, on a 2300 lb car you just don't need that much anyway. I'll let you know how I like the vic as opposed to the air gap. Of course, it'll be spring before I get it back out. I also went with the vic b/c of the single plane and I've decided to go ahead and install my nitrous.

I think, so you can't quote me, MM&FF (or some engine mag) did a test on the Victor and Air Gap and the Air Gap did out perform the Victor where it counted for a street car, but there were clearance problems. You may want to check the height difference. It may fit on the 302, but on a 351, it might present a problem.

Have an Air Gap RPM on a 408 and it's a happy thing. It is a real stump puller...makes over 500 lb-ft of torque from 2K to 5800. Makes over 470 all the time. I have a 6K RPM chip in my MSD box and so I never miss the "high end" - going to put the 6500 RPM chip in which should just about max out that intake, my cam, and valve springs...

The RPM Air Gap does present some clearance issues. Found in my SPF that even w/ a 3/8" carb spacer, the cobra oval air cleaner was rubbing on the inside lip of the hood. Sadly, we had to remove it. Fortunately, we found on the dyno that the spacer made less than 5HP difference...and that was from no spacer to 2" spacer and everything in between.

Bad408,

I bought my car turn key with a Victor Jr intake and a 750dp. The 351 has Victor Jr head, a cam that pulls 10-11 inches at idle, and stock displacement. We drive the car a lot on the street I've since switched to an RPM air gap and a 670 street avenger. The car is much stonger in low and mid range and extremely little was lost at the top end. I'm selling the Victor Jr and the 750 dp this Saturday.
