Does a 289 motor need an expansion tank

I am putting a 289 into a FIA car...the car has an aluminum radiator with an electric puller fan...is the expansion tank needed or is it just for looks...thanks

Wouldn't hurt anything....it's an overflow bottle....just like the plastic reservoir on your average car....it will have a little puke tube also in case the system needs to vent a little fluid onto the ground.

It depends. The tank is needed when the radiator is lower than the highest point in the cooling system. This allows the air in the system to collect in the tank vs. somewhere in the cooling system, where air is no good.
