Question 351W stroker - build info

I have a 1969 351W that was rebuilt, balanced, blueprinted, decked, honed, bored, bead bleasted, blah, blah blah about 15 years ago. It's in my Mustang that has been driven rarely in that time.

I'm thinking about pulling it out of my Mustang, and having it rebuilt as a stroker (perhaps 408) for my Cobra.

Can anyone estimate about how much I should expect to pay for the following:

- Machine work on the old block
- Stroker kit (crank, pistons, rings, bearings, rods)
- Decent aftermarket heads
- reassembly

Is this a $2000 job or more like 3 or 5K?

Goaztecs if it is the origonal engine Iwould take it out bag it and stick in corner. The 69 block presents one problem the deck is .025- .040 shorter than say a 71 block depending on how much the machine shop took off of it. If you decide to use it special pistions will have to be ordered. Nobody that I know of makes an off the shelf pistion that is forged. Best thing to do is start off fresh with a 71-74 block. to give you an idea on price go to www.perfeng.cc or call us 513-738-5001 eric or bobby

Thanks for the info machine man. I was always told that the early windsor castings were considered superior due to their strength. Are you saying that this thing can be machined once in it's life, but not twice? I've put perhaps 10K miles on it since it's total rebuild, so it should be in pretty good shape. The cylinders were taken out .030.

In any event, your engines look like they are in a different ballpark that what I'm looking for. $10,000 is a little rich for my blood. I am not looking for 500HP. Just a mild, streetable motor. I primarily would like it stroked over 400 cubes to keep it in the displacement ballpark of the original 427 S/C. I was hoping I could invest perhaps 2K or 3K into one of my existing engines. Is this a fantasy?

In that case, if I were you I'd leave the bore and stroke alone and just play around with cam, heads, Intake and exhaust manifolds...... should easily make over 400 HP and still keep it within your budget.

Just my two cents
