Nuke if the builder will not do anything for you you may just want to start over. Again I have no idea what is in the engien as far as parts so it is hard to say. If you want to call me with a list of what the builder said he put in it I would have a better idea of what may be best.
One thing for sure is you are going to have to take it all the way down if you are going ot keep it. The big worry for me would be the block front crank bore. If the bearing spun and damaged the main bore you will have to have it rebored, line bored, that rasies the crank in the block and will cause a loose timing chain problem that can give you spark scatter at high rpm and will cause the cam to run late in relationship to the crank.
Sorry for what I am sur may be some spelling problems. I am one some new meds and they are screwing with my mind. No wise cracks from the gallery please.

I'm going to see what these guys tell me around mid-day. I think it's time to upgrade if I'm going to have to go through this headache. Who makes the best 347 short block?

Please do not take this the wrong way but I have never understood the need for a stroker in a Cobra. You use a longer stock to get more bottom end power not top end. Getting a 2400lbs car to move is not much of a problem. The strocker engine can not rev as high as a standard engine will because of the longer rods. The dwell time is the killer. If you want to get close to 351 put in a 351. More bottom end and more rpm at the top. You can get more than 400hp with out going to a lot of trouble and it will run for years with little up keep.
Old saying I live by when it comes to engines and most other things. KISS Keep it simple stupid. The less exotic the build the less trouble you will make for yourself.
Just my opion of course.

Thanks Bruce. Good point. Okay then, who makes good high rpm 302-306? I'd like to try to stay with the same size block so my intake and stuff will fit. Trying to look at saving a little somewhere.

Ford Racing makes some 302 short blocks....I would probably trust their work....but I have heard about some crate engines slinging rods and spinning bearings too....

$1299 for a 302 short block from Jegs...

I start with a used block and go from there. I do not like brand new blocks as a starting as they have not been seasoned and will change shape over time.

I have a 302 on a stand that we are putting in a MGB It is good for 320 hp as it sits without NOS. Should go to 7,000rpm with out much trouble.
You could build one like that and use most of what yo have on the top if it is any good. Again I have no idea what you are running.

since they are only about 2 hours from here. That motor looks good Bruce. Of course my motor looked pretty cool too. I thought it was all good, Fel-Pro everything, ARP polished bolts, just seemed all quality, Oh Well.

Bruce, I really don't have the time. I'd like to pull mine, swap good parts and put it back in. I'm going to be working 72 hours a week for almost 2 months and I've got two young ones and a wife. If I spend all my spare time in the garage, they may not be so understanding anymore. I already hear about spending more time with the car than the fam, and it wasn't broke then.

Here's a link to a pretty capable crate engine builder:Roush engines 2yr/24kwarr!If thats the way you wanna go. I have nothing bad to say about crate motors. I bought one back in 1990 and it's still running 10.50s at 125mph with just an intake & cam swap. Never been apart. Best $3495 I ever spent.
Don't start cutting corners on your new engine you haven't even started to build yet! Better to spent a little more money & time now than to have to do this again. It's not like this is something you have to do once a month. Remember, this time around it will be YOUR motor.

Nuke,

I have been down the road your on twice (once was my fault and once wasn't).

Given what you have posted (if your crank is not bad) and your engine does not need to be bored you should be able to vat your block, replace all your bearings, turn your crank, and maybe have your rods sized if necessary, re-balance all your internal parts, and re-assembly with new gaskets for less than $1000. I would suggest spending an extra $110.00 and buying a re-useable oil filter from someone like System One. This is the best early warning system out there for catching problems early. Things are going to happen and just imagine how mad you would have been 100 miles from home and this caused your engine to seize.

I have no idea if this would help you or not but if you want to take it out and put it on a pallet ship it to me I can go through it and send it back. I will not replace any part that is not damaged or that is of good quality and ship it back to you with a 12/12 warranty on any of the work I do.
Not sure it will be much hep to you due to freight but I figured I would put it on the table for you.
My wife and 5 kids were never happy when I brought my work home so I understand how that works. With 3 of them out of the house now I still do not have time to myself for after work fun. That is why we built our car at the shop after hours before going home. Takes a bit longer that way but it does not cut into customer time.

Actually John, I've just found out that they will stand behind their work. I just got off the phone with Reg and he said they will fix it. So I called them to ask why it broke and they really didn't have an answer except bearing failure. I've got to pull it out and crate it to send it to them. I guess after talking with these guys and looking at their site I can send the engine to them with confidence.

Well, that's at least some good news. It shouldn't be that bad of a job to pull it....you got a shop crane? The roughest part will be pulling the tranny off.

I hate to see you in this situation, but at least the clouds are starting to roll back a little bit.

No I have not but to be honest I am not much on keeping up with other shops. I have plenty to do keeping myself on track!
No problem with me trying to be some help. I can not stand it when someone gets a crap job on a car. Makes the honest folks in the area of car building and repair look bad and with some of the folks out there we do not need any more help in that area if you know what I mean.
