Question Intake manifolds

I am finishing off a 302...E cam, std bore, GT40X heads (58cc), roller rockers, 10:1 comp...looking for better than average street, no racing.

From my homework, I have decided on a dual plane intake manifold and likely a 650 Holly.

What is the difference between the different brands for similar dual plane intakes...Brodix/Holman Moody~$350...Weiand~$200...Ford Racing/Edelbrock~$150-200...

I guess I am asking, what does the extra $150-200 get you?

Appreciate the input...

-John

Good question, wouldn't surprise me to find out the answer is:

"Not much". Somehow you got to get the cfm flow numbers to compare the manifolds.

I'm pretty impressed with the quality of stuff offered by Ford Racing.

FWIW - I've heard the Edelbrock intakes (of which I have one) are pretty piss poorly cast. I can verify that the casting is unimpressive at best and I spent a fair amount of time cleaning up as much as I could on the inside.

I've heard the Weiand, Dart, H/M, etc... are just generally better, more consistent pieces, but I've never fondled one before (nor have I seen comparative dyno results between one of those pricier ones and what I have). My dyno man told me I'd have seen better power and more consistent exhaust gas temps if I'd have stepped up.

Who knows...next step for me is Weber 48IDA's. Although I wouldn't mind throwing a used Weiand on next time my motor's out and seeing if there's a diff at all.

My engine guy suggested the Ford Motorsport over the Edelbrock. Edelbrock makes the FMS "RPM" manifold but it seems to be a better piece than the Edelbrock counterpart. If you are not in it for the peak horsepower numbers save the 100 - 200 bucks for gas and have fun with it. (94 octane is up to $2.19 here in economically depressed western NY)
