393w help

I’ve been milling over options for my new motor for a while now and I could really use some advice before I go nuts guessing what I should do. I've got a ‘71 351w block at .040 over, at the moment that is all. I am doing everything through flatlander racing since for me they are local. The block is already at one of the machine shops they work with. The setup I have so far worked out is a scat cast crank, H-beam rods and forged dished pistons to make about 10.6:1 compression with victor junior heads. I am unsure about the valvetrain and am planning on using a torquer II intake with a 650 dbl. pumper I already have. I could also use advice in the clutch/flywheel area, I had planned on using the stock cast iron flywheel but the guy at the shop strongly recommended something tougher. The car will be used mostly on the street however it is by no means a daily driver and can afford to be a bit temperamental. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

if money is no option canfield heads are as good as it gets as far as heads go. im looking to go with a set of AFR there right up there with the canfieds but there 1/3 of the price. sounds like the lower end will be good, billet aluminum flywheel would be a good choice depending on your output but will give some rpm because of the light weight. tranny wise i would say either TKO2, or tremic i would call tremic and tellem what u wana do with your car and theyll tell you what to get for your application. The best resource for any SB ford owner is muscle mustanges and fast fords magizine.

Well, money is cirtanly an object, I don't want to cut any corners but I would like to stay under 4 grand if possable, and that was a reality untill I start hearing from the machinist that flywheel failure is a real danger with the stock iron flywheel, I've never payed much attention to this area before and I cant seem to find anything regaurding the limitations of the stock flywheel. I already have a tired old 351 in my car with a allmost new clutch and a perfactly good iron flywheel. The plain was to simply swap the engines rather than parking the car for a month. I guess the car will be wound up pritty high quite oftin, so my main question is can the stock flywheel handle 450-500hp?

a steel flywheel from JEG's will run 250.00 but all there aftermarket listings are all steel so you shouldnt have any probs. i dont know if your doing the work or your haveing them doing it? im get a short block done from DSS racing. they do have an option that you can send them your block and, they highly recommend AFR heads. to put it simply they make awsome engines and know whats goin on. u should checkem out maybe theyll price better than flatlander. my 2 sents
