Default cylinder honing

Ok, I have a question about cylinder honing. I'm building the engine and it's my first, 302, see my post from yesterday. Anyway, there's some light rust on the cylinder walls. It's more than surface rust since you can feel it with your fingernail and finger tips. Anyway, I have an I.D. guage and need to get this rust out to get a good measurement to know what pistons to order and also to see see how far the rust goes into the cylinder wall. Will light honing myself take care of this? Should I use oil or do it dry? I of course don't want a fininshed hone job, just want to get this rust off. Thanks!

Darrell;
I'd let your machine shop do that. Once he has the rust out he can tell you what size pistons and rings to order, or in a worst-case scenario, to get another block.

Find a good engine machine shop in your area ( you'll need em
eventually anyway, unless your garage is exceptionally well equipped!!!!!) and let them clean up the bores and do whatever else is necessary. You say you have to order pistons anyway, so if it takes .020, .030 to clean them up, so much the better!!
