Checked out your thread to FMS. Was interesting to note that FMS has changed to a "forged" piston vs the original "Hypereutectic" ones in the 392. Ya think my two blown engines along with those of many others resulted in the change??
I called their tech support and was told my engine was running too lean--go figure. Have rebuilt using forged pistons (& crank) and moved up to 427.
Much harder to keep straight on the road!!
The 351/427 can't last any shorter than the FMS's 392!!! Total of 15,000 on three engines. Do use a rev limiter now after the 1st "blow."
My builder tells me I sould be "bullet-proof" now.--we'll see.

First engine was a FMS 392 crate. I think that one went at about 800 miles. The second was the FMS short block 392 (I used parts from the original long block to complete the engine).
Second engine went on the dyno with about 12,000 miles!! Both cases were broken pistons.
I had the second block rebuilt and I believe EVERYTHING is now forged.
I had milled AFR heads on the second engine and the compression was somewhere around 13:1 when it went the second time. I have now changed pistons to drop that to 10.5:1.
Next time I get on the dyno I'll add some racing gas!

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION - BLOCK CASTING DATE
I was looking at a FMS 392W, but I got some good advice about how a late model casting date may effect your re-sale value in several states (registration issues).
In CA, AB 2863 was just amended , and you really need to be pre-1976 more than ever. The rolling 30 year exemption is gone. Other states like New Jersey require a block of 1972? or older.
Now I am having a 408W built by Speed-O-Motive of West Covina, CA. I specified a pre-1974 block. I have heard great things about them from other drivers on this forum, and I am glad about my decision. They do all of their machining and clearancing with a CNC.
Many, many builders believe that 408 is the best displacement on a windsor stroker for the reasons mentioned here. Also, I am getting higher-end internals, and a dyno'd (broken in, valve lashed, jetted) engine complete in a box with an MSD ignition - turn-key.

The rod ratio on the 392 engine is no better than the other stroker 351W engines so this is no reason to build one of these. We have plenty of the 408, 418 and the 427[in an after market block] on the road with more than 30 to 40 thousand miles on them. The pin does not go into the oil ring and the piston is nice design. The 454 BB Chevy had a worse rod ratio than any of these 351W engines and look how many of those are on the road. We can build any combiantion you want at one of the best prices you will find. We do a 408 crate engine for about 5600.00 that has stock block,cast steel crank, H-beam rods, new forged pistons, hydraulic roller camshaft, Ford Racing double roller timing set, stock front cover and oil pan, melling oil pump and oil pump drive, Ford racing hydraulic roller lifters, Comp Cams pushrods, Edelbrock Victor JR heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake assembled. Just install distributor, carburetor, valve covers and water pump and you are ready. This is the best bang for the buck ou there. 500HP and 500ft/bls torque. Check it out you won't be disappointed. Well there's your answer. I'd go with a Keith Craft (Professionally built) over an FMS (low bid contractor, or factory assembly line) any day.
