Bill,

Mine is on the bottom right hand( passenger side) side. However I think some 351 W blocks may have used one on the other side but am not sure. My radiator outlet is on the right hand side at the bottom so you will need one that matches that. If you know the year of the block any good parts storeshould be able to tell you.

Ron

Default 351W Water pump Inlet?

Hi Bill

Both sides are available, it depends (as say Ron) of your radiator output location. However, it can be more convenient to have the water pump input at the left side (driver side) if you want to install a dry sump to avoid any conflict between the inlet water hose and the external dry sump pump (that is usually installed at the right side in the SBF).
All the best for your project.
Bernard

As mentioned above, you can have it either way. Some mid '60's Mustangs (289 motor) used passenger side water pump outlet. If you go this route, you'll have an awful time seeing the timing pointer.

From around '68 - up, all water pumps used drivers side water inlet. If your radiator has a passenger side lower inlet (most do or there would be steering rack interference) you make a lower water crossover out of 1 3/4" exhaust tubing, preferably stainless. Looks good, works good, doesn't leak or corrode.

Thanks guys. It's as I supposed, it depends on - - - . Since I don't yet have a radiator I suppose I can pick whatever I want.
Thanks again,

You need to get the water pump that works with your timing cover. If you have a pointer on the cover it takes the early style pump. The late style uses a bolt on pointer. If you use the wrong type you will have a hard time setting the timing.
You can get the rad set to any side so it is best to match it to what you have.

Does anyone have a picture of the timing cover with the timing mark on it instead of timing mark indicator bolted on on the block? My timing cover has a small line that appears to be cast in to it but I don't know if that is actually a timing mark.

There is a cover with a small extention on the cover with a cast in line. That is the pointer on the late style cover.
