347 crate motor
I had a oil pump go out in my 302, and managed to ruin that motor.
My question is has anyone used the 347 crate motor from Ford Racing Performance? The specs on this engine look very impressive, 450hp, 400 ft lb torque. Z304 aluminum cylinder heads [supposed to be better than GT-40 heads] hydraulic roller cam etc. Ford has a disclaimer on the spec sheet that says " not recomended for use in daily drivers" I will not be using it as a daily driver, but I want to be able to depend on it.
Has anyone out there used this motor? How many miles, any problems, how about performance? This may sound stupid but how does it sound? Anything I need to know that you can think of?
Thanks
P.S. This will go in my FFR.

I am not sure how the 347 crate motor will fit your needs, I too am looking into it myself.
To find out if it will fit into your FFR the best thing to do is email FFR directly with your kit serial # and they will get back to you quite quickly.

A 347 is a 302. It's just internals..

I know that it is a strait swap for the 302 that is why I am concedering it , I was more concerned about driveablity.

I wondered the same question myself. could it be the cam is to aggressive for street use or the infamous rod to stroke relation. I don't know but would like to know.

I doubt if FMS puts a radical cam in it's 347. I'm sure there are lots of guys with much more radical cams in their small blocks. If you ask any engine builder out there what's the best way to more HP, they would tell you to stroke it. A 347 would be a great engine for your car.

I did not go with the crate motor, but I did go with the Ford Racing 342 Short Block. Same as a 347 only standard bore, not .030 over. I used the Edelbrock Performer RPM package (heads 2.02/1.90, cam, intake, 600cfm carb, and waterpump). I dropped this into my Backdraft with a T-5 HD tranny and the BMW 3.47 IRS. I took it to the dyno and pulled 332 RWHP and 341 RWTQ. I was quite impressed, it was about 30 HP more than desktop dyno said it would have. As for streetable, it is great. As for sound, it is also great. Not the same as a big block, but still sounds sweet. The heads I have produce 10.5:1 compression, the cam is just on the edge of lumpy at idle, both of which contribute to a good sound. I do have to check to oil more often than a 302 though. Even though Ford used pistons that don't let the rings interfere with the piston pin, it is still a long stroke for a 302 block, and does burn a little oil. If Ford made a 327 or 331 short block, I would do either of those first. I think they might have a 331 crate motor. All in all, it is a great motor for a Cobra.
Good luck with your quest.

Any 302 based engine is a great choice in a cobra. We had our builder do a 331 stroker with a sportsman block, scat forged crank, World Products Jr. aluminum heads, vic jr. intake, hyd. roller cam(.555 lift, 238 duration), and a qwik fuel 750 holley. It made 450hp at 6400rpm on an engine dyno. It idles at about 1100 and runs excellent in a lightweight car like the cobra.
I'd say the 347 from ford would be a great choice for your cobra. Good luck in the search for the perfect engine.

I just fitted that exact 347 to my Cobra. Had it's first run on friday, and we tweaked a few things yesterday.
So far, quite impressive. Nice and smooth around town and a very nice note out on the open road.
I am running Imagine's 8TB setup and MoTec management.
Here it is
I will be using it for every day use, and so far, I think it's going to turn out just fine.
