351 Out of a 1972 Mach 1
I'm picking up a 351 that originally came out of a 1972 Mach 1; and the guy is telling me it's a Windsor motor, but I thought the Mach's had Clevlands...I'm still gonna pick it up either way, it's a price I can't say no to, and the rebuild will be fun anyways...But is there any way I can tell which one it is? and what are the main difference between the two (performance, construction etc.)
Thanks all

should be a cleveland
It should be a cleveland, but they are easy to tell apart.

They are fairly different engines. A quick easy way to tell the difference is that the Cleveland has the thermostat housing on the front to of the block and the Windsor has the large return water hose going out of the intake manifold. The Cleveland has much larger valves and better flowing heads. Like Michael, I would expect it to be a Cleveland, especially if it is a four-barrel. I believe there are two little quirks about the Cleveland you should remember if you rebuild it yourself. The smaller central bolts around the intake manifold may go into the heads so be sure to remove those too before trying to remove the intake manifold and if you have the block tanked, make sure to put in a new ring in the thermostat housing. If you do not the engine will over heat and could self-destruct. There are lots of Cleveland vs Windsor threads on this forum. Cleveland’s are still a uniquely good bang for the performance buck engine. One neat thing about them is that their wide heads give them a gutsy appearance. It is one of the few engines that I have heard rodders, even Brand X guys, say it just looks good.
Best wishes on your project.

Thanks so far guys;
The thermostat housing is on the intake manifold; just like the 302...and the carb is a 2 barrel, not 4...
I guess that means its a Windsor?
I'll take some pictures and get some numbers when I get it home today and hopefully figure it out from there...
Thanks so far guys!

Sounds like a weezer to me. Plus the Cleveland valve covers have 8 bolts and a windsor has five if I recall correctly.

The quickest way is look at the valve cover bolts. The Cleveland uses 8 and the Windsor uses 6.
