Default Engine size - Thoughts wanted

I am building an FIA car (from ERA, with racing brakes and rear) and would like to get some thoughts on what others have done for engine size and power.

I live in the Northeast, and plan on driving the car on as many nice days as possible, along with the occassional trip to the track. I would like it to be fun, safe and reliable on the street, and quick at the track. I am not looking to build something authentic, so I am open to a 289/302 or 351 based block.

I am leaning towards purchasing a crate engine from Ford, Roush or another engine builder. Power seems to vary from 400 - 500hp, with corresponding levels of toque.

I would be interested in getting others opinions (recognize this can be an emotional topic, but please try to think through how I plan on using this car) on what might be a good fit for this car, what others have done, and how happy they are with their choice.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Marc

I know this doesn't answer your question, but if you don't already have your car you might want to check out this recent post.

302 Windsor small block. I am using one in my Cobra, nice and reliable for street. Can put out a decent amount of power for track use as well. In fact 302 or 289, just as good as each other.

I like my 302 with h/c/i. Next time I'm going 393. then after that 514. then 630 big chief.

Marc,
The FIA is a small block car, it is smaller that the 427 body style. It should run fine with a well tuned small block from Roush or any reliable performance builder.
