Flat tappet cam

Hi guys,

Just bought a 408 stroker, the guy who I bought it from said it has a flat tappet cam in it. What does this mean? He had it apart for me to inspect and it looks like the lifters were hydraulic, is that right?
It has 1.6 roller rockers, are they adjusted in the usual hydraulic way? ie nip tem up, the 1/4 turn more, the lock them? or is there supposed to be a gap?
I'm several months away from installing the engine, so I won't do any damage YET!

Oh yes, the lifters do NOT have link bars.

Simon,

Flat tappets come in solid and hydraulic varieties. I would ask for the cam specifications from the seller. It determines the personality of the engine.

That's just another way of saying that it's not a "Roller Cam".

Thanks guys, yes certainly is a hydraulic lifter cam. Am I right with my assumption on setting the clearances?

0 degrees lash plus 1/4 of a turn is certainly in the ball park. Engine builder may perfer something else though.
