What track did you run at? Have you ever had your set up on the dyno?

I think if you had some drag radials those times would drop considerably. I know at a local track here, that times are atleast half a second slower than at other tracks { traction issues , I guess } . I will get my Cobra to the track soon , I hope. I know on the street that a stock 5.0 with 373's will just spin the tires thru second. I put in the Ford crate motor [ 302/ 345HP] and can't wait to see how that will run. I would be happy to get into the 12's. What part of Ky. are you in?

Try this web-site to see if the numbers match up . www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calchtm then click on the horsepower calculator icon on the left side of the page.

Hey Blykins,

I really liked the Clay City track. Everyone was real nice and tech went ok. They didn't give me a hard time about no top but I took the helmet and wore it. The track seemed to be in good shape. I just can't get the car to hook. I didn't let any air out of the rear tires because I forgot my air tank. Clay city is about 110 mile from my house. I drove there and drove back home. Kyhorsepower.com rented the track and there where some very fast "street" cars there. 04 mustang cobra ran a 9.97.

I threw a set of these (on steel rims) on my Cobra and dropped .80 on the first run. You can plan on a 1/2 to a full second off your et's with a decent slick; doesn't matter whether they're Hoosier's, Mickey T's, etc. I ran the BFG TA's first time out and 60ft's were a joke at 2.0. I just swap them on and off for the track. Otherwise; you're better off staying home.

I will be going thru Ashland next weekend, on my way to Inez, Ky. If you know where that is you should have been a map consultant for Rand -Mcnally. The local Ford club is having a track day here at the end of April, there web- site is www.unitedfordowners.com . I don't know how far that is for you. Are you coming up for the London Cobra Show?

No , I have not ran that car yet. I tried to last week but no one would go out there with me. I will try to run it a week or 2 after the London Cobra Show. Are you going to the LCS?

Yeah TA's are SO worthless at the track, even a decent set of street tires would show improvement, let alone slicks!

Tire spin on BOTH rear tires or one? I assume you have the open differential?

I've heard it said several times the BDR's get decent wheel spin on both sides in spite of the open diff. This would indicate a stiff chassis not 'twisting' or 'raising' the car to one side. Thus putting more weight on one wheel, less on the other, as is typical with most cars. Chassis twist in general is pretty limited on most all replicas, short wheel base being the primary factor I would think.

The 'Drag Race' calculators are not very good UNLESS your car is seriously set up for drag racing. You'll find the numbers you actually run compared to the numbers the software says you SHOULD run to be very disappointing. The calculator assumes several things most of don't have. Good traction for one, which includes not only slicks but 'weight transfer'. Cobra suspension, even BDR's, just don't give you good transfer on accelleration. The suspension is designed around 'road course' type stuff, not drag racing, and the short wheel base doesn't help.

Based on my experience with slightly modified 302's in a Cobra running TA's high 12's even low 13's are 'typical' (FFR, BDR). Again, using the "Dragster Calc Software" will really throw you off...

I think it's something like every 100 pounds saved is worth a 1/10th of a second off ET? Thats static weight (drivers butt, roll bar, etc.). ROTATING wieight (tires, wheels, etc.) is like ONE pound saved is equal to THREE pounds of static weight.

ET depends on traction. Trap speed on weight, hp, and aero. 106 trap is 220-240 hp depending on power curve.
