Did you know what you were getting before you made the choice to purchase this crate motor?
If yes, then don't be mad at the product for choosing to buy something that is not what you needed.
If no, then be sure to better understand what you are buying next time.
I am not going after you, taking you to task, or even giving you a hard time. I understand the trials of getting the correct "front motor set up".
The crate motors are a good deal, they are explained in detail, they have a tech line, and they don't generally pull fast ones, so I am a little confused by your displaced anger and bad mouthing what has become a great product.

I'm confused as well. My 5.0 Ford Crate works flawlessly and is an easy install. Did you want it to look like a 289 setup?

Probably because they have tons of left over spare parts and want to use them up.

OK this is the deal. Upfront this was a 95 mustang crate motor when I called Ford racing for the parts I needed they said order 95 mustang 5.0 parts they did not work went to Summit /Jegs / then ordered from Ford didnt work. So come to find out my motor has Explorer timing cover water pump and oil pan no one ever said anything about Explorer so I fabed my own on the burn table they look great. I guess more info up front would have helped, this is all working out but the road was long.

In the notes section of the Ford Racing Web site, catalog, and even the listings on Jegs/Summit/etc. it states what you will need to replace for any application. If you have the 302/345HP setup it is pretty clear that you have to throw away the timing cover, waterpump, etc. and replace it with the parts for your setup.

INSTALLATION NOTES:
See engine installation and tuning tips on page 28.
Some or all of the following items may need to be changed from your original engine
or modified for proper installation:
* This engine has a rear sump Fox style 5qt oil pan and pickup (M-6675-A50), serpentine style water pump (M-8501-C50) and timing chain cover (M-6059-D351), 4-bolt harmonic damper (M-6316-M50) and valve covers (M-6000-K302R).
* The rear sump style oil pan will work in all Fox body applications. For other style applications, see oil pans on pages 90-91.
* The timing chain cover (M-6059-D351) will work with most V-belt applications, see page 86 for other timing chain covers.
* The water pump (M-8501-C50) will work on 1986-93 Mustangs. For other applications see pages 86-87.
* The valve cover (M-6000-K302R) included will work on 1986-93 Mustangs, optional valve covers are available on pages 106-108.
* The damper is production style 1981-95 Mustang. For other applications see pages 74-75.
* The flywheel included should work for most 157-tooth manual transmission applications. For other transmission applications use a 1981 or newer 302 (50oz) flywheel, see pages 115-116.
* Distributor with steel gear must be used to be compatible with the camshaft included in the engine. See page 105 for distributor gears.
* Firing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 (5.0L HO and 351W).
* Built with current available parts. Photo and specs may vary.
* Shipping weight approximately 425 lbs.

The only thing to truly complain about with the Ford Racing engines now is the pricing. Somewhere along the line they thought they were Roush, only they don't deliver the quality and level of detail in the components that Roush does. Sad really, now we have to begin looking elsewhere for our "general purpose" engines.

I did not see the word Explorer in there but I may have missed it. Any of those combos will work in a Cobra you just need to make it work I did. I still cant see the word Explorer in there. Call Ford Racing tell them you have a 302 GT 40 crate motor and you need a part they will tell you just order a what ever for a 94/95 mustang.
