Remote Oil Filters
The below excert is from the Ford Racing site............So what size lines do you run???? It does not say???????????????????
If using a remote oil filter mount or oil cooler, make sure that all of the components are large enough to eliminate any restrictions to oil flow. Many Cobra replica kit cars use components that are too restrictive.
I was searching to find routing when I found the above........................
Also, what is the proper routing??????
1. Out of engine
2. Into ??
3. Out of ??
4. Into ??
5. Out of ??
6. Into ??
7. Out of ??
8. Into ??
9. Out of ??
10. Into ??
11. Out of ??
12. Back into engine
Choices to fill in are; Remote Oil Filter, Oil Cooler, Engine Pre-Oiler, Turbo After Oiler, and Turbos.

Based on what I've read and what I've learned from others that have tackled this question:
-12AN if you plan to track the car a lot.
-10AN is usually plenty for casual street driving and the occasional spirited run or two.
In colder climates, the oil cooler is often overkill and doesn't allow the oil to reach the proper operating temperature. I have to use a block-off plate on mine during the winter, even here in So Cal.

This might help, the web address below is for an oil cooler thermostat that you can mount in line, allows oil temp. to get where it needs to be before allowing the cooler to come into play.

Yes, I agree with Ford about remote oil filter systems adding restriction.
I had -10AN hoses and switched to -12AN and picked up a few PSI.
I replaced my canton oil filter adaptor and remote filter mount that has 1/2" NPT ports with new a system that was designed around full size -12AN fittings. This pic compares the my old canton adaptor with -10AN and my new adaptor with -12AN.
I also use an oil cooler bypass valve which allows me to turn the oil cooler on or off as needed by turning a lever. With the bypass valve installed, I can watch the oil pressure drop about 5-8psi by turning the oil cooler on or off. I didn't realize that the oil cooler had so much restriction.
Here's my system:
-12AN from the engine to the remote filter and bypass valve. Then I use -10AN from the filter to the oil cooler.
My Company designed and machined these parts. More info is at:

Okay, on a whim, I called Canton Racing Products, who I purchased the Pre-oiler and After oiler from, and spoke with a tech. rep., who not only explained the lay of the piping but drew it out and "faxed" it to me. The rep. was a really nice fellow and even called me back to see if I had any questions. I "highly" recommend Canton Racing Products.......

The pressure loss is made worse by using 20W-50 and similar weight oils. Most Cobra owners have not even heard of "Reynold's Number".
Just my $0.02 worth.

Bob, I think that may explain why some guys report an oil pressure drop with RPM. I've seen it on my car with the smaller lines. As the engine speed increases, so does the oil velocity through the remote filter system. Higher fluid velocities have higher head loss. My oil pressure used to increase up to about 3500rpm...then start dropping as the revs continued to increase. Now with the bigger -12AN plumbing my pressure holds steady through the revs.
