So Cal Engine Builders?
Anybody have any recommendations for an engine builder in southern california? I'm looking for a 427w crate motor for my Cobra replica. Would like something north of 500 hp & ft lbs. Keith Craft and Roush (though a little pricey) are on the list, but I'd like to find someone more local if there are any problems.
Anybody ever deal with T and L Engines in NC?

I have no experience with them, but CHP is down in so cal someplace.

I know they build a lot of motors, in fact the demo SPF car I rode in had a 351 stroker from these guys.
Good luck in your search.

Talk to Troy at FPS (ford performance solutions) in Anaheim. He built my bros. 418. I believe it dynoed @ 570 hp with similar torque. Besides that, He's a great guy. Chas C

Troy knows his stuff. They do a lot of SBF porting. Seem to have good prices. And make very good power.

Maybe you're right.. I don't know.. It does add up fast.. I made the mistake of first asking for a short block with cam degreed (~$3,200) than chickened out and asked them to finish it off as a long block... The final bill will be about $7k. Scat steel forged crank, Comp Cam 280HR, forged pistons, AFR 185, Air Gap, etc..

Superior Automotive in Anahiem 714-503 1880. Really nice shop with dyno facilities and nice people to deal with. I dont think they do "crate engines" per say. They have a web site. Worth a visit.

MFE,
If you're in the valley, the best guy is Ron Dunlop at RD Machine. He's at 818-882-0500 in Chatsworth.
Here's a 427 that he just built:

All the above are good choices. In answer to your question about T&L, they are a first class operation. They used to build a lot of Cup motors before the one-engine rule cut that business down dramatically.
