Default Dyno Tuning

BDR #369 has a new FMS 392 and Holley 770 Street Avenger. I'm having a baseline dyno done and dyno tuning in a couple of weeks but am wondering about the need/benefit of dyno tuning while it's in the shop. The engine was installed in Florida recently and I suppose it was initially "setup" but not dialed in. Am I right or am I wasting my money on the tuning?

Best money you will every spend. Don't get hung up on the numbers. Make sure the dyno has an oxygen sensor wide band. Tune for a 12.5 air fuel ratio.
Take a timing light, and jet for your carb. Good luck. The dyno is worth it but we don't race dyno's Let me know the numbers.

It may be overcarbeurated with the 770 and I know the pipes cost me a lot of RWHP. The tuning is setup for 3 weeks down the road. I'll post the numbers. I've heard that these guys are good tuners so hopefully, we can max out the hardware I have and then I can make a determination on modifications.

I doubt you are overcarbed. What heads are on that 392? I run a 650 dp on a 302 so I doubt you will have a problem. The type of heads you run usually determines what total timing you engine likes.

It has GT40 heads. I believe the initial setup was 20 degrees.

Just for your info I picked up 57 hp at the rear wheel with timing and jetting. Car drove like a dream after the dyno.

That's significant. Mine drives great now. If my increase was comparable, I'd be elated. I'll post the numbers on this tread in a few weeks.

Thanks for your insight.
