Default Newb question about building a 351w

i am a newb at v8's etc. I would like to build a 351w stroked out to a 408 but I don't know the process or the parts that I will be needing. I would like to make around the 500 hp range. Does anyone know any good books or places I can go to start? I want to make a price list up etc.

thanks,

Dan

I like reading FORD WINDSOR SMALL BLOCK PERFORMANCE by Isaac
Martin. It is very well written and I think that you will find it very helpful. If I recall, they may even take you step by step through a 408 build. I got the book on Amazon.

Dan
If your looking at buying pieces and doing the work yourself, I'd suggest buying a rotating assembly. There a number of parts houses that sell them that way and all the parts fit together. Have the assembly balanced too.

Dan;
As well as "Ford Windsor Small-Block Performance" by Isaac Martin(already mentioned, try:
Engine Builder's Handbook-Tom Monroe
How to Build Big-inch Ford Small Blocks-George Reid
Engine Blueprinting-Rick Voegelin
How to Build Horsepower, Vol.'s 1 & 2-David Vizard
High Performance Ford Engine Parts Interchange-George Reid
Building Ford Short-track Power-Ford Racing
1001 High Performance Tech Tips-Wayne Scraba
All these and many more are available in the Transportation section at your local bookstore, as well as Amazon. Your best bet is to hang around here for a while, ask questions, and keep good notes. Good luck with your build.
