392 long block or short block?

I have a Roush 392AL that's built on the Sportsman long block. I don't know much about this engine and was hoping someone could enlighten me about the background of this engine. Roush doesn't seem to promote this engine anymore and from my discussions with them they're not big fans of the long block. Bottom line is I have one and want to know more about it. I've noticed that other members also have 392's, some even have webers like I do. Well, I have the weber setup with manifold on my dining room table and currently have a holley carb on the car (long story, trust me).

Any information, even basic, will be a great foundation for me going forward.
