Best heads for 408
Looking for best performance heads for a 408. The exhaust ports have to be for stock headers. I will be using full roller valve trane. Looking around the 205 range and want to run on pump gas. Thanks Bermblaster

You did not state cam specs or anticipated HP / TQ levels. However, the AFR 205's work well on these strokers. Do some searches.

Edelbrock Vic. Jr., Canfields, AFR 205's, Trick Flow, etc....
Seems to me there was a head comparison posted just last week on this board with charts, graphs, etc... might want to do a search.

Always want max hp I plan on having duration in the upper 250 @.050 Have not decided on exact cam specs. I have comp cams 292h in my mustang 351. I want more. The bottom end [408] will be scat products [forged]. I want the car to sound as bad as it looks.

Does any one know if the AFR 205s are available in the stock exhaust port height? Bermblaster

I would suggest the Brodix Track 1 M2 CNC'ed head from Keith Craft. It will flow more than the AFR's. I would look for heads that flow over 300cfm at .500 lift as a starting point. The Brodix are around 312 at .500 and the Yates are around 360 cfm.

Hey Berm,
I don't think your gonna find too many aftermarket heads that don't have raised exhaust ports. Seems like most of them that I've looked at are raised varying amounts. A lot of them are in the .130-.135 range. Most raised ports shouldn't be a problem with the Hurricane. I'm using Dart heads (exhaust raised .135) and don't have any issues. I think Ryan has Victor Jr's and they're not a problem. I think as long as you choose something thats gonna work with the rest of your combination you'll be OK.

Berm
I have the same problem being restricted to stock location. AFR 205 are like 1/8 higher which for me is a problem.
An alternative to consider is contact Ed Curtis at www.flowtechinduction.com. He is considered one of the best cam builder and head guys around. Ed does a thing with a special CNC program and gets the AFR 185 heads [ stock location] very very close to 205's flow numbers. While at it, ask him to build you a special custom cam for $395. Again his reputation is way up there.
Jack
PS flow numbers are great but velocity is king

Contact the manufacturer of the cam you have picked and ask him how much head you need. Ditto for Ed Curtis being very, very good. I have bought two sets of heads and one custom cam from him. Good guy and certainly knows his stuff.

best heads for 408...
good set of C# yates with stainless valves, not titanium. great flow for that displacement and price is much better now that SC1's are legal in nascar.
best of luck,
rrd
