Dual Wide Band o2 (uEGO) on a 351w -Necessary?
All,
I am struggling with a question... and figured I may see if anyone has any experience with this.... I am looking to upgrade my O2 sensors on 351w (408 standard KCM crate) in my car (JBL) and cannot decide if I need a dual channel o2 (uego). Since the pipes are separate each should theoretically have one...but what is the likelihood one side of the engine is going lean more than the other side? The selection of O2 sensors that support more than one is very limited….so maybe this is not an issue  Does anyone have experience with setting these up? Thanks |
Depends on your induction system. If you have a carb or batch fired EFI, then a single sensor will do just fine.
If you have a crank triggered sequential EFI, then there might be some small advantage to using two sensors. |
Efi
I guess I should have gave more information :D
It is an electromotive with a crank trigger and sequential injection I just cannot find a good controler with dual uego sensor  Thanks |
Are carbs really that equal from one bank compared to another? I always thought some cylinders were leaner than others due to manifold design ect. I have a single sensor (PLX unit) with a carb set up. Each sidepipe has a bung so I can switch it from one bank to another if I wish. I have not compared one side to another though.
I know FAST now makes a dual sensor that allows for averaging or individual bank readings. I do not believe it costs much more than the signle sensor setups. |
Hey Chris,
You could give Dave at AutoTrend a call. He did my conversion and is exceptional. Maybe he can help you. http://autotrendefi.com/ Good luck, John |
John,
I did not realize you did an efi... did you use the JBL headders? I have had a heck of a time trying to get them sealed up enough. Do you have dual O2 sensors? I will give the guy a call... he is a bit far away to provide much help...and who can really help me. I am trying to get this thing track ready... enough is enough... I built it to race and I have a date with the track in May 12th **) going to be a long time before I am as good as you... but have to start some where  |
Hey Chris,
Yes I just finished the conversion a last week and the motor is loving it. I’m using the Accel Gen 7 and we still have some tuning to do but over all the motor has responded very well to it. I run a single o2 sensor located in the merge collector and that is very adequate for my setup. That location is far enough away from any possible fresh air reversion screwing with the signal. I’m not familiar with your setup and not sure why you need to run the dual. I’m not using the JBL primaries or side pipes. I built all my own stuff and used the SPD merge collectors as they are superior. All my slip fits are tight. I gave you Dave’s number as someone to at least talk to, very knowledgeable, and possibly point you in the right direction. I know he is going out of town on business for a few days. If you don’t get him, try him on Monday morning too. Good luck with your car on the track. You’ll find the JBL is like a big go-kart. The car doesn’t make sense until you drive it on the track. Keep me posted with your progress. Talk soon, John |
I would say yes to be retentive, but no because the one is seeing half of the engine and the greatest change of the fuel/air ratios between cylinders is between the front/rear and middle cylinders. Unless you have indepenent stacks cus then the vacuum and volume of air flow over a period of equal time is "equal" for each cylinder. But that is really all equaltion mumbo jumbo.
Two maybe beter but I doubt the change would be large enough to notice. If it did make a signifigant difference then EFI companies would be flooding the market with the "2" option. |
