Default Engine overheating

Yeah.. I am such a pest I know..

So my 351 is overheating.. Just all of a sudden it jumps up to 220 and then up to 280 before I shut it off. I went out and touched the upper hose and it was lukewarm at best. The bottom was rather hot.. Does this mean the thermostat is sticking on me??

There a possibility that you have an air pocket in block's cooling passage. Do a search, I know I've read threads about your problem some time back.

I'm also wondering if my expansion tank is interfereing with the thermostat.. I have this one below.. The thermostat goes inside the housing that accompanies it and then the assembly bolts on. It seems to me that this design may have issues with a balanced sleeve thermostat since it has an extra peice of metal between the housing and the intake manifold. Anyone ever used this tank with a balanced sleeve tstat?

When I first got my car it was always running in the 200 -220 range with a 180* T-stat. Put in a 160* and now runs between 160 and 180, even on fairly hot days.
