OK, so we know that a lot of the guys are running stroked 351W blocks. We know its safe to go to a 408 (keeping the stroke under 4") Knowing that you have a budget (we all do) I would think the best options is to purchase a good 408 Stroker kit. Get a good kit that uses good parts. You wont be disappointed... I personally met a guy with a 351W stroked to 427. This short block was pro built. The guy didnt beat on the car but after about 2 years (summer use only) one of the pistons pushed a hole through the side of the block. He suspects this is from the heavy side load from the 4.170 stroke.
This is the reason that I decided to keep the stroke under 4" (personal preference).

I got on the stroker heaven website. They have a 351/434 stroker kit using a Scat crank with a 4.000 stroke. Seems it would be safe to put this kit in my stock SVO block, being that it is at the 4.000.

Wow, thats a lot of CI from a 351. You may want to check out the required bore for that monster. I guess you would also want to check the max allowable bore for your block. Would you be pushing your block to its max bore with this kit????

What, are you just looking for trouble?? Check out the bore on that kit, 427supr. You aren't going to be able to do that with your block.
I don't get it. Do you have something against a 408, or what?

Ssshhhhh. Not so loud, SPF1061! We all new he couldn't do it with his block, but I for one, am going to wait with a big smile on my face for his next post a few weeks from now titled: "Why did my 427w blow up?"

Can't be done with a stock block. To get 434 cubes with a 4.0 stroke, you'de need a 4.250 bore. Good luck getting that out of a stock block. That's the max recommended bore for a Dart block.

You guys were all belly aching about going over the 4.000 limit on a stock block. I find a 351/434 with a 4.000 stroke and now it the bore size. What's next, the spark plugs won't fit. I'm just kidding! Thanks for the info, I probably go with a 408.

Ford Motorsport website claims that their 351 based "sportsman" block can be bore/stroked to 427 ci. I believe it is a 2 bolt main. When you guys talk about a stock block, are you talking about a 351 "sportsman" block or your run of the mill Ford 351 block? My engine is a 1995 Ford SVO crate motor. Did Ford SVO make a "sportsman" block in 1995?

No, I believe the SVO motor was based on the marine block. Essentially a heavy duty version of the stock block. 427 is about the max cubes for that engine.

Like I said, I'm not afraid of a stock block 427 stroker. As long as you keep a good oil supply and keep the rpm's below about 6K it'll be fine.

Yo 427,

I second, third etc. the opinion that a new block is the way to go. I went with the Dart Aluminum for my GT40.

Here's a pic......Oh yeah Webers too.



And a stroked 351 to 418 with downstacks, fuel injection etc. for the Daytona...



The Daytona engine was and is scary fast 560 HP 580 ft. lb. torque, the GT is a work in progress but, I have high hopes.

That's a beautiful engine. I going to play it safe and go with the Ford 408. An Eagle 408 kit can be bought for around $900.00. That to me is affordable HP.
My wife finds beauty in jewelery. I find beauty in car parts. God definitely created men and women different.

Good choice !!! It will be plenty of power and very dependable!! Although... I really liked the looks of that Dart Alum with webers....mmmmm How about a little less jewelery and a few more car parts.... Just kiddin. Let us know how it works out.
