Default MSD Distributor

I purchased a MSD distributor for a 302 while forgetting the cam is for a 351. I guess I have to use a distributor for a 351 since the firing order is different? I set the valve lash as if it's a 351 engine.

351W Dizzy is dimensionally different and won't work. 302HO is same firing order as 351W. Regardless, all you'd need to do is swap the wires.

Default I have a 1978 302 so the firing order is different than

the 5.0 L and 351 W. So I can just arrange the ignition wires according to the distributor and 351 W firing order?

That's all you need to do.

You will also need to insure the gear on the distributor is compatible with the cam. Steel roller cams use a steel gear, and cast iron flat tappet cams use a cast distributor gear. There should be some documentation that came with the distributor as to what cam gear was installed. If you mismatch these components, the distributor or the cam gear will get worn to almost nothing, requiring a complete engine tear down and cleaning to get all the metal particles from the gears out of the engine.
