Question 351W distributer recommendation

I am considering replacing the MSD ignition in my 351W crate motor. Does anyone have any experience with Performance Distributors in Memphis, TN? I was looking for Ford Duraspark ignitions & found this Co. online. They seem to offer exactly what I want, but I have no knowledge of them. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Default Ford HEI

Why not try this! I have had an HEI in my car for ages and it is a 1 wire hookup....2 with the tach and absolutely reliable. I even bought one on EBAy for $65-00 ,a billet with cap rotor 50000 Volt coil and just plugged it in about 4 years ago.I rev my car to 8000rpm and it idles smooth.
I have never understood why an expensive troublesome ignition is better!!

I have used their distributors in a couple of my older mustangs. they worked great but were a bit pricey if I remember correctly. the option that CHANMADD offers works really well too. I have used that method and I think dollar for dollar his suggestion is better.

I have never used their distributors (Perfomance Distributors), but I did buy one of their high dollar one wire Ford alternators which is nothing more than an Auto Zone $29.95, 60 amp Ford rebuilt alternator with a small voltage regulator mounted on the back which you can buy all day at NAPA for 35 bucks!!!!!!!(I have since done this)!!!!!! I believe that alternator was in the 179.00 dollar range some years ago and after about two months, it went south, sending 22 volts to my MSD box and frying it....while driving one day, I noticed my volt gauge bouncing from one extreme to the other and finally pegging on the high side, about 3 seconds later the car killed and would not re-fire....took the aternator to Auto Zone and they tested it, it was putting out 22 volts...

Called Performance Distributors and told them what happened, they seemed nice and told me to send it back to them for testing, which I did, they sent me back my alternator with a new voltage regulator installed and a type written note saying their voltage regulator was defective and they replaced it under warranty... I called and asked if they would replace my MSD box, since their faulty part fryed it and they plainly said "NO WAY"...I said you admitted your part was bad and destroyed my ignition box, which they agreed to,but refused to even consider paying for a new MSD box and I offered to send at my expense the burnt MSD box for proof... They also agreed that the alternator was putting out 22 volts and would fry any MSD box or pretty much any other ignition box, but they still refused to pay for anything other than the 35 dollar voltage regulator...

Since that phone call, I will do NO business with them or any company that treats me in the manner they treated me.......

David

Why were you using something other than a motorcraft alternator / regulator>?

Performance distibutors do seem to work , but they are cheezy looking and you may have issues with clearance of lots of items at the front of the engine.

Including :

Heater Hose outlets
Expansion Tank
Hood (depending on config)
air cleaner(s)
