Default 5.0 -t5 questions

Anyone know how far down from the oil pan lip to the oil level is in inches on a standard 5.0 or a 289?
Has anyone used any Amsoil atf in there T-5? and how did it work?

not sure on question # 1, it would depend on if the engine is running or not.

I would take a bare pan and pour in 3 qts and measure.

for question #2, couldnt hurt, seems $$$$

BTW: mobil1 Dextron III is my favorite.

Terry,

On my Canton oil pan I poured in six quarts water (mine is a 7 quart pan) and the oil level came up to within about 3 1/2 inches of the rim. If you have the 289 with the dipstick in the side of the pan I would expect the oil level would fall just below the dipstick.

As far as Amsoil...it seems to be pretty popular at the drag strip witht the Mustang guys. If there was something bad about Amsoil we would all know pretty quickly because a lot of people around here are on top of things and get the word out if something is less than it is supposed to be.

Thanks for the help. Does the ford f-1 filter hold 1 qt of fluid?
It looks like the oil level is different on each pan ford used.

dont forget all the oil in the galleys, valleys, and lifters.

when we pump an engine full of oil prior to first start, we usually loose about a quart.

So thats where the 3 qt comes from, 1 in the filter 1 in the engine itself, leaving 3 in the pan not 4 as you would think?
