I recently converted my 351 -385 hp windsor to a 408 stroker using the stock cam the engine came with from ford racing.I want to put a slightly hotter cam in the engine. My question concerns driveability.Other than a loopy idle and more gas consumption and of course more hp,is there anything else I should be aware of. I do a lot of city driving and currently its a pleasure to drive. Will it stay that way if I make the change? thanks

It depends on how radical the change is. More displacemtn has a tendancy to "soften" the cam. What is fairly radical in a 302, is a lot more mild mannered ina 408.

I suggest you get in touch with Keith Craft and see if he can get you fixed up with a nice street performance cam that's easy on daily driving situations too. He builds lots of these motors and does them as well as anyone on the planet. Ther's no reason you can not have significantly more punch than that Ford cam and still be able to drive in city situations. I have a 418W stroker and my cam has gross lifts of .555 intake and 576 exhaust. which is considered "moderate" by most standards. It still produces about 550HP at the crank but is quite drivable in traffic when needed. More than just the cam it depends on other mods. good cooling/fan/shroud and compression ratio, whether it's hydraulic roller or flat tappet, etc.

P.S. (It's Craft with a "C" not a "K". Sorry for the typo in the title line)

I second donraye recommendation to call Keith and tell him what you have and what you want you motor/car to do.
He will have a custom cam for your needs. Very reasonable price and quick shipping.
Late last year I bought a pair of heads and a cam from him. Should have done that 6 years ago!
