Default Upgrading a Roush? Noob Question...

Hi Guys,

This is probably a dumb Noob question but...

I'm looking at several Cobras with "Smaller" Roush engines (342R's and such) and was wondering if I could upgrade this powerplant down the road? I'm thinking more along the lines of simple bolt-on mods or maybe a carb or cam upgrade. Nothing as drastic as a tear-down or bore/stroke, no big-money jobs, just moderate stuff. Is an engine like this maxed out or does it have room to grow?

Thanks

Generally the R series engines from Roush are pretty stout and close to their maximum potential output IMHO. You may be able to squeeze more out, but the cam would have to be changed to a solid roller and then the complimentary components (intake and carb) around it matched to the bigger cam.

ROUSH is pretty close and reliable as-is.----you could add a supercharger but that would require a re-think on the piston rings....

As others have already stated, the 342R is near its "full potential". There will not be any quick swaps to it for more oomph. However changes in the transmission and rear gearing could wake the whole car up, depending.
