Meaning of Resale
Ebustin,
Resale:
selling again, particularly at retail. 2) adj. referring to sales to the general public, as distinguished from wholesale, sales to retailers. In many states a "resale license" or "resale number" is required so that the state can monitor the collection of sales tax on retail sales. NOT PRIVATE in other words
580. A "specially constructed vehicle" is a vehicle which is built for private use, not for resale, and is not constructed by a licensed manufacturer or remanufacturer. A specially constructed vehicle may be built from (1) a kit; (2) new or used, or a combination of new and used, parts; or (3) a vehicle reported for dismantling, as required by Section 5500 or 11520, which, when reconstructed, does not resemble the original make of the vehicle dismantled. A specially constructed vehicle is not a vehicle which has been repaired or restored to its original design by replacing parts.
520. A "retail sale" is a sale of goods to a person for the purpose of consumption and use, and not for resale to others, including, but not limited to, an arrangement where a motor vehicle is consigned to a dealer for sale.

I know of one SPF sold to a Navy guy in CA that was transferred to VA before he could relicense it CA. Licensed it in VA, now he is TDY in WA and will soon be transferred to CA. Has all the SB-100 paperwork and stickers.
He is really thinking he will be s.o.l. trying to relicense the car now in CA.

Not true. I called the DMV and asked about purchasing a used vehicle that was already registered under SB-100. They said yes, the SB-100 follows the car, therefore I will not need to go through the process again.

HowardV--even though the car was re- registered out of CA(VA) before being brought back into the state?
Car is currently registered in VA as a '67 due to VA's dmv registeration process.

Gary, sorry I missed your second posting with the details of it leaving the state. In that situation, I have no idea if he can get his old SB-100 status back without reapplying all over again.
I just meant a current CA SB-100 registration will stay with the car if it is sold to someone else in CA.
Sorry about that!
