Greetings, I wanted to put up a couple of cheat sheets on an economical and cool ways to setup your SPF.
In this note; the front drive setup for your small block ford.
This can be used with any 289-302 and with small mods a 351W.
The core of the idea is to use a small (short) serpentine belt and pulley system for a conventional rotation system.
This also brings up one of my favorite small block ford modifications ; the GEN3 FORD alternator.
Crank Pulley: For the crank setup, this is using a Ford Racing Harmonic Dampener with a Stock 86-93 mustang Lower crank pulley , glass bead-blasted, and painted with "Trim-Black" AKA semi gloss black. You can use regular Grade 5 or better hardware with standard hex heads to attach it to the bal.
Water-Pump-Pulley: March Sells a separate water-pump pulley that has traction grooves in it for conventional rotation applications, their part number is "2004" this has holes in it for both SBF pulley diameters and is clear powder-coated aluminum. overall a nice piece of equipment.
Alternator Pulley In my setup , I used a Ford / Motorcraft 3rd Gen alternator; 130Amp unit. This can be found in say a 1996 Ford F350 Panel Van with a 460.
--or you can use a 95AMP model from the same car.
Note: If you are tight on space , or your engine is further forward than my particular setup, -- the 95Amp unit is the way to go.
Models: 95A GL494RM 5.125" case (129mm)
Models: 130A GL502RM 5.625" case (143mm)
Mounting : the nice thing is the 7.0" pivot 95Amp or 130Amp alternator can use the standard upper and lower 65-66 mustang brackets with minor modification.
for the alternator shaft, I used a piece of all-thread and a custom aluminum spacer. The bottom hole of the alternator is threaded (by you) and the bolt is inserted from the back.
I used a 4 Seasons pulley which was of the following with a 2.625" outside diameter.
More edits shortly.
