Superformance Daytona Coupe w/LS3 Motor
I'm not on Facebook, but I found this link to the GM Performance Parts page with some info regarding 3 Superformance Daytona Coupes that are being built in the UK using the new LS3 E-Rod motor.

Doug, they say that necessity is the mother of invention. Well the UK and Aussie guys are way ahead of us in the mod motor/modern motor installs on these cars, especially in Cobras, because of their strict emissions requirements. I've read a couple threads here of LS7's in a Cobra.
Think about that for a moment. A stock LS7 in a Z06 is rated at 505HP. That car weighs around 3,100lbs without driver and in stock form on stock GY radials (and with enough practice) can click easy high 11's in the 1/4 mile. High 11's on street tires, and I know at least 3 owners that have gone mid 11's! Add drag radials and some have posted 10.9x times on a stock drivetrain.
Now take that same powerplant and subtract 500-600 pounds in a Cobra? Scary fast and super reliable. Doesn't look as period correct (only when you lift the hood), and may not sound the same, but it will still spank you (if you can get it to hook)!

Dean,
I agree. The E-Rod is rated at 430hp. Purists might not agree, but if SPF offers an option to buy an LS3 compatible SPF Coupe they'll probably see some incremental car sales.

KitCar Mag had a picture of F5's '33 Hot Rod with the blown Aluminator Ford racing engine in it. It looked great, and would look awesome in a Daytona. 700HP at the flywheel?

Just to clarify, the point of the LS3 E-Rod would be to pass smog without a significant loss in performance. You could put that motor in an SPF Coupe in California and not have to deal with SB100.

We enjoyed Datzilla at home in 2009 but there's no rest for the... well... restless. While Datzilla warmed our shop, our Superformance Daytona Coupe took a ride to Detroit where the foremost expert in Chevy engines (crew chief on the ALMS Pratt & Miller Corvette team) is switching out the existing Ford small block with a Chevy LS7. True to Peter Brock's nature (a man who "creates" and does not "follow"), he can tell you all the numerous reasons why this is a technically superior engine and all the issues it resolves (built in dry sump, physical size, etc, etc) that make it the perfect engine for the Coupe. Peter's xmas present was a call from Detroit. On the phone was SPC0073 running its new engine for Peter to hear!
We hope your 2009 was good to you as well.
Gayle and Peter Brock

Doug -- there are LS3 mounts available for the SPF DC. - now.
personally I would like to see the new 5.0L from the 2011 mustang GT in there. (411HP) and 27mpg with a 6 speed -- yeahhhh.

If it wasn't for resale, I'd have dropped an LSX block under the hood of my superformance. I've owned one LS1 and one LS3, the motor make great power with a simple cam change and tune. It has a strong power band, reliable and best of all...CHEAP. I can't imagine how much more I'd have got spending $15K on an LSX verse my pretty Roush.

That LS7 sounds good on the upper end, with a cam change that would be a fire breathing monster, sad part is it made more ponies then my Roush ;(

Nice to see the pics I shot on Monday pop up here on the Thursday! Small world. That's the new UK demo car which has just got its wheels on and is now mobile but still with a few items to sort out. I'm sure the headers issue will be sorted later. It was rapidly prepped for the NEC Autosport Show due to open on the 13th so we grabbed a few shots for the info sheet - just as well as the next day there was over 6 inches of snow on that driveway! (And it's still there)
I did get to 'drive' it but you imagine just how dam slow.....sounded rather wonderful though :-)

Cant figure out if you are BSing. Did you put a "Ford" based Roush 427 in your vette? The split windows have always been a favorite. When growing up my neighbor had two in the garage, who knows what they are worth now.

Whoa Nellie?
I think I need to clean my computer screen. Did I read that right?
I thought I was living on the edge or at the "end of the world" within the Corvette community with a 540ci BBC and Tremec TKO600 5-speed in my '66 Corvette Convertible.
