Default Insurance for SPF MK3

I hope to have a cobra by the end of this year (at the latest). I've checked with AAA (my car/house insurer) to see what the insurance for the cobra would be (5,000 miles/year max). The quote was nearly $2k more than I pay now (2 cars: me, my wife and daughter).

Any advise on getting lower rates?

I went with Haggerty as well. I was at first a little confused when shopping between stated value vs agreed value. Basically, do your research in your area. In mine, no other classic car insurance could come close to the same coverage for the money. Most of the other ones would not "guarantee coverage" and therefore were able to undercut pricing.

Mattpatt,

Here's a recent thread about insurance.

If you are a current, or former, military service member you might try USAA in San Antonio. I found the coverage and price to be very reasonable.

Sailfish,
I tried them when I first got my car and they said they didn't insure cobra replicas. How long have you had your cobra with them? It might be worth a call back.

AAA is still dicking me around and all I wanted was a quote on adding mine to my policy. There were a number of good options on the link that Got The Bug posted and I may be absolutely turning to those by the end of the week.

It's tough because like you I use AAA for everything else, motorcycles, car, house, even earthquake. 27 years with them but they can't give me a simple quote on adding a Cobra to my extensive policy.

Clayboy------

I've had mine insured with USAA since 9/07. I'm not entirely sure they knew what it was, but it's definitely insured for full replacement value------and at a very competitive rate. Give them a try.

I had the "kit car" problem with Safeco...you have to convince them that it is not a kit...tell them/ show them the MSO ...show them the web sites for the factory and once they understand that the car was not build in some garage and there are replacement parts available for any necessary repairs they get it...I moved from Infinity cuz their negative corespondence full of " if you do not do this....if you are late we will....etc " pissed me off and since all my other vehicle insurance was with Safeco and there was a auto pay established ...that is what I did....about $520 for a value of about $56,000 with no limitations....for what they call a Classic Car....they raise the value of the car automatically by 2.5% every year...it was a pain but since I have 4 cars with the Agent and told him I would need to find someone to insure the bunch, he may have made a better effort...

It took me AAA 3 weeks to get me a quaote to add a Cobra to my existing policy. It was very clear to me that they simply didn't understand what the SPF Cobra is. When they finally gave me a quote it was for $1900/yr!!!! above my existing policy. I gave Midwest a cll (thx, madmaxx): MUCH more knowledgeable AND reasonable (about ~$650). I'll look in earnest as I get closer to geting the Cobra: at least I know about what it will cost (or less).

thx, everyone

Did they write an agreed value policy? If so, how much? Seems cheap.

Just got hooked up with Robbin at Midwest Classic Insurance (Auburn, IL). The policy is underwritten by Infinity Classic Collectors (Hartford, CT).

Agreed value of $50K and annual premium is just $470 ($250/$250 deductible on collision and comp). Saved me well over $400/yr vs. my previous Allstate policy. Yes!

Dean,

Does your policy have unlimited mileage?

I've had my Cobra insured with Northwest Classic Insurance for 2+ years. The policy is also written through Infinity Insurance and has no mileage restrictions in California.

6,000 mile limit. I'm lucky if I clock half that in any given year, so it's more than ample.
