Supercharged modular 4.6 in a cobra?
The newer MK3s have a raised cowl to allow a modular engine to be used. Has anyone put one of these engines in and, in particular, has anyone installed the engine with Ford Racing's supercharger? How does it fit? Any other differences between it and the usual engines used? Any issues with performance, or other car characteristics? I'm getting close to making final decisions and want to make sure I consider all the options.

I was told that the cowl was raised to accomodate the 385 series engines. I don't know if that means you can put a modular in. It seems that the width of a modular might also be a problem, expecially with the 4 valve heads.

Gidday Mattpatt, you should check out the Australian Cobra site, a few of our members have 4.6 s/c in their cars. I'm currently building one with a 5.4 dohc going in, so you might find some usefull info

Here's one from a few years ago...I have got a few supercharged 4.6 pic's i'll just have to find'em...
![](http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/14178P2170030.jpg) Standard scoop on this car!!
![](http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/medium/Dale_Benge.jpg) you supercharge it so it hangs out of the bonnet a little ...then you no longer need to worry about scoops and cowls!!!!

I had a kene bell on my mustang, it's pretty low profile, provided you can filt the motor in I think you could make it work without to much trouble. It comes with the chip so set up is very easy.

I was at the Barrett-Jackson event in Palm Beach last week and saw a Superformance MIII with a ford based modular engine from Roush in it. Looked great and sounded better!

It be nice to see photos from underneath the car, to see if you would decapitate a mouse with the oil pan./ ![Smilie](http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

It will fit, the hard part is the intercooler fitting, you will have to do some mods on that.

Hi Mat.I have fitted a couple of Gt500 Mustang engines in the Superformance cars here in Aus.So I woul think the 4.6 would be very easy. The later cars are already made to suit the 5.4 quad cam.Cheers mate and good luck. ![](http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=558&pictureid=4888&thumb=1)
