One wire alternator? really not the same!!
Okay, I know all of the typical Q & A that goes on regarding this subject as I have been involved as well. My question is this. I want to retain the red light by tapping into the blue wire, but have read that this will not work with an ampmeter. I have yet to figure out why or what function is lost. Is this true, and if so, does anyone know what the issue is? Please advise.

Large SI cased GM alternators actually have three terminals.
A> BAT+ for your Solenoid BAT+ Lug on the firewall.
B> Dual Terminal Side Connector ; look for the #1 connector this is stamped with a #1 on the case, this terminal is used to connect to the dash warning light,
--which is wired in series with a 12V+ IGN on only signal . in case of issue, the #1 terminal will *THEN* act as a ground wire, thereby illuminating the waring lamp.
give it a try.

Steve,
I have tried that and it works. My question is, that I have read that you should only do this with a volt meter and never an amp meter, and I have not yet been able to figure out why or if this is even correct.

The thing is , you could use the 95A Gen 3 Motorcraft and be ford-o-riffic at the same time.
Andrei -- one should not be using an AMP gauge that is UNDER the rating of the ALT.
in the case of the SPF, the AMP rating is 50/+/- -- whereas the 10SI 1 wire is atleast 90A.
