They are correct.

Buy new and you WILL spend the first year sorting out and repairing all the little bugs that WILL crop up.

But, you get the car exactly as you wanted it and you know it has never been abused..........yet.

Buy used and you, hopefully, get a sorted out car that the previous owner fixed or dealt with all the little bugs that cropped up. You will also save lots of money but you might get a car that has been abused somewhere, or not broken in carefully. Read the thread about the guy who bought a car with 1000 miles on the clock and is now rebuilding an aluminum block engine that has scored cylinders.

These cars can be a crapshoot. Most of the owners take very good care of their cars. Have a good mechanic give it the once over if you aren't able to.

I have done both, and have spent the first year fixing/adjusting/repairing to get it to my liking each time. But, this time I have exactly what I wanted.

THAT is without doubt the biggest risk factor you face, major engine failure, and it does not go away with used or new. I think the thread you are referencing, Jim, was the all alloy engine with 2,400 miles on it (or so), when he threw in the towel and had it torn down/rebuilt. The big problem with that engine is, no warranty, because he bought the car used.

Major engine failure happens far to often and should not be easily dismissed. Perhaps that is the most important of all reasons to go with a new car. That and make dang sure who ever built the engine is still going to be around to do the warranty, in a worst case scenario.

You can save some bucks going with a local builder or a lesser known engine builder, but it up's the risk factor. Going with a well known engine builder, such as those that advertise here on CC, might cost you more. I guess it's how you value the warranty aspect and how lucky your feeling. ALL engine builders, from Roush to KC to Gessford (OK, maybe not Gessford ) will have the occasional issue with an engine, but they WILL be around to handle it.

Yeah, remember the Roush FE motors that had troubles...

These motors are as close as you can get to full race motors without 110 octane, you can have problems with anyone's build.
