Default Spf 289 fia cobra -- holy cow !!!

I was at superformance Monday to see Lance and Barry to meet about future projects and to grab a rear end. -= fibreglass rear end for a customer car.

However I was treated to quite the site - the new 289 FIA COBRA from superformance -- !!!

The build quality is Light-Years ahead on this car -- upgrades and serious components, --options --options --options !

There is a whole generation / segment of cobra guys who havent had a decent affordable factory built small block offering until now.

I am impressed, the attention to detail, the tribute to the original, and some period correct 289 FIA goofyness -- too cool.

The Key points -- The SPF 289 FIA is available with 2 different versions of exhaust pipes , 2 different dash boards / gauge layouts, optional little "red-baron" windshield, and every 289 FIA comes with the little red bungie - Leaf springs - a REAL MOTO-LITA steering wheel, -- round tube frame.

If you are thinking this is a MKiii with a new body, it sooo is not. The build quality and subtle engineering updates make for a soldit nice FIA. -- one wonders why this is not being sold with a CSX number - My guess is that they will quickly blow through the 1000 numbers one would get by making it a CSX. - 7000-7999

where I think this will be a very popular unit.

well, enough of my rambling-

here are the pics.

Hope to have one soon --

Great photos! Thanks for sharing.

Ross and the team at Hi-Tech have done a masterful job with this car.

The last picture of the dash now makes me understand why I have not tripped over it in our parts room recently.........because it is now in SoCal! I never noticed that I no longer had to step over it to get to the refrigerator........

Better in Lance's way than mine.

But, I have DRIVEN the FIA and as Fernando says "Fabulous!"

Am I correct in assuming that the 289 FIA is now been distributed through Superformance and therefore will be available in the UK via the Superformance dealer/s in the UK?

Due to the 100% accuracy of the car does it or has it been approved for classic / vintage racing ?

thanks

As i don't know so much about the 289, i did notice the back bonnet was not smooth as other 289 replicas i saw. Could someone explain me the history for its odd shape please.

Thanks

Trunk dimples are for the requisite fitting of a suitcase to pass period FIA requirements. Story is that they had to fit the suitcase in the trunk to pass inspection, so the crew put the suitcase in the trunk and slammed it shut, creating the dimples and passing inspection. 289FIA's have these dimples. I have them on my ERA, but they are optional.

Wow! Even has the leaf-spring suspension like the originals. The rear fender flare looks a bit odd to me---it has a bit of a crease wherein my ERA FIA has a smooth flare.

Looks great. DD

Question. What are the two raised & flat areas on the deck lid ?
Is this what they are ?

Hey, Steve, very nice looking machine, with beautiful wheels. So does it come with matching, fitted luggage like the ole 300 SLs? Rich

The dimples on the mk2 trunk/boot are also optional as they did`nt appear on some of the FIA`S. and more than likely if you choose the USRRC version you will opt for smooth as none had them.
As far as body shape/flares goes, again they differed from each other. We chose not to replicate any one car, but rather incorporate features and shapes from them all.
I love those photos. Thankyou
Ross

Looks Great! All though I'm partial to ERA's, this is a very nice example. Picked up on a lot of the subtleties through out. I'm curious as to what type of trans. they're using as the shifter is WAY back on the tunnel?? That shifter is about 8 inches back from where mine is. Over all very nicely done! Good Luck! Matt
