Default Revised - Superformance Press Release - Sway Bars

As many users already know, the original GTP sway bar set up has been a significant revolution to the superformance Mk-III owners with a much welcomed improvement in both handling and safety. Superformance Cobra's have never handled as well since the birth of the Superformance Mk-III back in 1995.

As more and more kits were installed, we discovered small anomalies from car to car in which there was no way to anticipate or predict, so they were recorded and followed up on them as time went on. As the kits began performing out in the field their performances and noted any potential improvements that might make them even better were recorded.

With over 75 kits out there, these sway bar systems have proven themselves over and above and beyond what anyone could have ever dreamed of, and put the handling of the Mk-III at the top of it's category...
and now in the right hands, even challenge other more exotic cars in the handling and performance department. At this point, the Mk-III can out handle the showroom GT-40's and Coupes as well as put the Vipers and Corvettes on notice that the Cobra is no longer just a cruise-in car.

Every other single component in these packages including every bracket, bushing, sleeve and spacer as well as acquire all the bolts, nuts, washers and even having custom sized cardboard boxes made up that everything goes into was upgraded and improved. EVERYTHING will be included and then some.

The new kits will come in a complete upgrade package including...

1. Compete front & rear sway bar kit with all mounting hardware
* Everything will come complete with all the upgrades included)

2. Solid front spherical rod end links UPGRADED from polyurethane
* Reduce flex in the bar, improve handling and increase ground
clearance

3. All spherical rod ends upgraded from mild steel to Chromemoly
* Longer lasting, tighter fit and twice the strength.

4. Hi-flex rod end spacers UPGRADED from standard
* Increased rod end articulation, reduced bind, free travel

5. Front lateral lock ring UPGRADED from being free floating
* Prevent bar from moving side to side and keeping geometry aligned

6. Front stepped base plates UPGRADED from low carbon flat stock
* Eliminate plate bending and improved sway bar response and
roll resistance

7. All bolts UPGRADED from to high strength hardware
* All high strength hardware reducing bolt stretch or bending
in even extreme conditions

8. Rear bar made narrower to fit all ranges of chassis numbers
* Provide better fittment to car with abnormally narrow chassis
mounts

9. Front bar made narrower to fit the solid end link upgrade
* Provide better fittment to car with abnormally narrow chassis
mounts

10. Deeper darker Red powder coating for a more discrete presence
* Professionally complimentary but less noticeable under the car

11. Rear control arm brackets UPGRADED even stronger
* Prevent bending and flex under even the most extreme condition

12. Rear locator bushings UPGRADED to width can be adjusted in or out
* Easier to install, longer lasting, solid fitting and hard to lose

13. A lot more upgrades on top of the previous upgrades have been added
as well to make this the best performing and easiest to install
suspension modification possible.

14. The best part is, even though material and labor costs have risen
since a year and a half ago, we were able to put this all together,
with all the upgrades, cheaper than it was before!

And of course, these kits will come complete with uniquely specific detailed instructions created only by us that virtually ANYONE to install!

Kits available and ready for shipping but the inventory will run out fast!

Is that cleared for public posting? i.e. outside the SCOF decoder ring area?
Here is the only public info I see:

Pretty sure this info is coming directly from Hillbank.

Well I received my kit today, and it's a work of art. Beautiful finish on all of the parts, and great instructions.

Hope to get them installed this Sunday.

Are these a significant improvement to those on late serial number cars? It isn't clear that they are......thanks!

Still confused is this coming direct from Hillbank or not? I see the link references to Cobra Valley, and perhaps its the same but the OP is from Hillbank (at least I thought).

They are from Randy at Cobra Valley.

Got mine installed yesterday and drove it today. Damn, what a difference. All I can say is they really tighten up the car, and they also complement the Avon tires. One of the things I disliked about the Avons was they did not communicate when they were going to break loose as well as the Goodyear BB's. Still not as good as the BB's, but they are really close now.

Between the QA1 shocks, 400 lb/in springs and now the sway bar kit, I don't even recognize the old girl.

I'm still wondering if they're going to significantly improve later S/N's. Anyone having a S/N 2000+ planning on replacing theirs?

Thanks!

This is from the Cobra Valley site where they address the new cars.

"This complete bar, bushing and bracket package is designed to directly replace, upgrade and significantly enhance ALL Superformance chassis numbered cars including the newer chassis models with the larger bars. Yes, this will dramatically improve those as well."

Well being an engineer, at times we just cannot leave things alone.

As I had stated earlier, I'm extremely satisfied with the sway bar kit, but I wanted to tighten it up just a little more. Well the only place to do that was at the frame mounts. So I grabbed some aluminum 7075 and milled out some solid mounts to replace the stock ones. I also decided to add some aluminum 6061 split collars to the rear bar, and an additional set to the front bar.

Here are some pictures of what it looks like.

Looks great John! Have you had a chance to take the car out to compare your new setup with stock mounts?

Also, did you run into any issues installing the upgraded sway bars or was it pretty much a direct bolt on replacement?

Yes, you can notice a difference between the frame mounts supplied in the kit, with the ones I made up. There is absolutely no give in any of the joints any longer.

The kit is a breeze to install. The only thing I missed was that the front a-frame mounts could be installed either on top of, or below the a-frame. Originally installed them below. When I swapped out the frame mounts, I also moved the front a-frame mount to the top location. Just makes it look cleaner, and the sway bar does not hang down as far.

well i'm glad someones got something useful from SPF.

I gathered together a UK group buy on fluted knobs and associated accessories with them, waiting now for almost 6 months, already paid in full. Still waiting for SPF SA to sort out suppliers.

Since this was kind of a test, I did not bother with a bushing. I believe I will retain the solid mounts, so this winter I will remove them and machine in a slot, and hole for greasing them and call it good. I could always machine them out of bronze, but it's not worth the cost to me.
