Side Curtain Upgrade
Has anyone seen improved side curtains for the Superformance? I’ve used my original curtains without the top for long trips and it reduced the wind buffeting. I was thinking it might be cool to have some nice, cleaner looking lightweight curtains. If I were skilled, it seems like it would be possible to get some plexiglass and an aluminum bottom rail to make something useful. Your thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

I work with acrylic....if you could get me a paper template I could easily make what ever pieces you need. I'm currently putting together a set of wing windows for my car, Mark

Can you bend the acrylic? I'm thinking an aluminum base with posts down in the doors in the stock curtain mounts, then a small wrap around the back toward the roll bar. Just thinking out loud really.

Hey, my bro-in-law has a Tiger and lives in Tucson. I'm planning to come down to the Gem show the week of Feb 7 for golf while wifey goes to the shows. It would be fun to go on a run while I'm down that way. Do you know if any Cobra events are in the works around that time?

I went to a plexy glass company and had them make me some side windows, used my regular side windows as a form, You will probaby have to measure and trim the glass a few time to get it to sit right before you put it on the aluminum rail. I would take your car with you so you can measure and trim on the spot. the plexy glass is as tall as the windshild, then went to Home Depot and bought a piece of aluminum angle arm, about 1/32 thick and 1 1/2 inches wide on each side and cut it to fit the bottom of the window. Also bought some small bolts, lock washers and nuts to attach the aluminum piece to the plexy grass, you have to drill the plexy glass, be careful it can crack. Also, round and smooth the edges of the aluminum. Then I drilled three holes in the aluminum to put the three bolts in that go in the holes on the door. The bolts need to be the same size as the slides in the holes in your door. You might take one with you to measure, they need to be at least 2 1/2 long. I pull the wind wings in to steady the windows so thay don't move, I put a small piece of velcro on the window edge so it doesn't scratch the wind wing. I put some rubber insulation, about 1/4 inch thick on the bottom of the aluminum so that it doesn't scratch the top of the door. It really cuts down the wind by about 80%. This seems like a lot of work, but it should take no more than 2 or 3 hours after you get all the material.

Acrylic can be bent and is actually very easy to work with, I can help you with any questions you might have if there is someone locally you want to work with...just let me know. I can also let you know if any runs are planned for the time you are here, it is actually fairly easy to get a small group of us together. Send me a PM if you want, Mark

I believe what also cuts down on the amount of wind is to put the plexiglas over the rollbar. Keeps the sides open and should be easier to make than the side windows.
Its really the wind that comes around from behind that causes the buffeting as opposed to wind coming in from the sides.

That's exactly what I was thinking with the curtains.
It would be great to hook up with you in Arizona. I'll contact you when I have more firm plans.
Thanks guys,
