New Member with......kind of a New Superformance
Hello everybody
I recently picked up a Superformance, in which the last mile was its roughest. It will be a long project for sure! The front was hit as well as the rear. No major structural damage, just major body damage mainly in rear. I don't have the 9k or whatever it is for a new body to match, and I unfortunately found a body in Florida and was told it was a Superformance body only to get it home to Wisconsin by a friends dad and find it is a Factory Five body Doors don't fit and do not have trunk lid or front hood.
I wish I had lots of money but I unfortunately don't. If you were me, would you cut up the FFR body for a nice side body mount and wait for a Superformance body years from now? Or do a big sin and put the FFR body on the Superformance?
Does anybody have front/rear body panels of any shape laying around in their garages? I will pay whatever it takes to get my dream car off the ground!
From the front of the lip of the fenders forward, and the gas cap back as well as the trunk pan.
Look forward to meeting all of you and I am sure I will have lots of questions!

I don't know if it's even possible to buy and/or replace an SPF body. It's my understanding that the body is bonded to the frame. You might want to post some pics to show the extent of the damage.
I don't see how you can use the Factory Five body.

It is possible to replace the body on a Superformance. A guy here in St. Louis has done it.
I don't know how much you paid for the wrecked car, but I would put in the order for the body now, and the proceed with the mechanical repairs. The body will take some months to arrive. But when it does arrive, it will fit perfectly, and be fully painted and ready to install. 9K is a decent deal. If you try to fab something up, and then finish it to paint, you'll have more that 9K in it for sure. Go for the body. You'll basically have a new car with some decent equity.

Doug, it is possiable to do. Streetrodpainer.com did mine after it got totaled. Bought front end from Hillbank motors. Ken cut the front off and put the new one on. I don't own it any more and didn't have anything to do with putting it back together. It was at the last bash and you couldnt tell it had been hit. Photos in my gallery of the wreck. You can buy the body for it in two pieces if needed. You just have to make sure what spo number it is as the old does not match the new.

Thanks for all the input guys! I will get some pictures up today to see the poor misfortune of the car. Hopefully in the near future she will be resurrected! I do have parts and pieces......to an extent. She is definately rough but so worth saving! Never thought at 30 years old I would have an opportunity to have my own!

There is a big difference between the body shapes. I would sell the F5 body and wait to put the correct body on.

Didn't know that you could buy a whole new body. Can only imagine that it's a HUGE project to remove and replace the body. Any idea what the ball park price is?

Blas I will give you a shout in a bit!
As far as body cost Superformance has $7247.82 on main body shell unpainted without doors hood or trunk. I have doors but no hood or trunk. The body appears to be glued on with a harder silicon type material to the trunk. Individual front is 3335.15 and rear is priced the same.

The body is attached with Silkaflex. Difficult to remove but do-able. We'll get into detail later, But what you have is an early style chassis. The newer style replacement parts will not fit properly on the older chassis. More on that later. From your photo, the windscreen does not appear to be the original, to the car, just something included with the body. A careful inventory will be required to see what you have and what you need. But I assume you have a salvage title when all is said and done...That could be a problem down the road...

I figured it would be an adventure that's for sure! As far as the windscreen its cracked and sorts. I thought it was for the car but maybe not? The bolts are removed in the pic where it bolts to the chassis. As far as title it is salvage but in Wisconsin here the inspection process is quite simpl or at least it has been. Resale wise it takes a ding but that's not in the plan anytime in the near future. I will get a list together for you Blas and we can go from there. Hopefully it can be pieced back together otherwise factory 5 body it is. I was quite suprised how close they are.

A painted body lists for $11,995.00. There are rivets holding the body to the frame as well as the adheasive, but it is very doable as the adheasive must be cut, but as you are not saving the old body you needn't worry about damage to the fiberglass. I doubt you will damage the steel frame members in chiseling the Silkaflex off.

I am not completely sure. The guy I bought it from had it for over a year and he bought it at auction. There was one a while back I saw that was smashed was from the New York vicinity that I know of. I am a craigslist addict and bought it 2 days after I found it!
