Voltmeter upgrade
Decided to replace the ammeter with a voltmeter. Ordered a new Smiths voltmeter guage from Nisonger. Access to the ammeter was easy once the Speedometer was removed. The new voltmeter required a keyed electric source and a ground, both easy to find and connect to. Question is how to connect the two large gage red wires that fed the ammeter guage? Both have large female blade connectors on them.

Soldering would be the best solution. But good solid crimps on the proper sized wire splice connector will work. Or solder the wire connector after connecting the two wires then reinsulate it.

Blas, I wired the voltmeter as per directions, and used the old ammeter to complete the circuit since I have not soldered it yet, just to test everything. When I turn the key to the "on" position, I hear clicking from the tach gauge for a few seconds. Don't remember this happening before I hooked up the voltmeter, and I did not touch the tach at all. Any ideas?

Clicking from the tach........?
First I'd pull the power supply from the new volt meter you installed and see if the Tach still clicks...
Then check the plug on the tach that you didn't loosen it while pulling on the red wires...
You sure it's not a relay..likr the start inhibit relay clicking? Put you fingers on the relays and sutne the key...feel anything?

The new tachs are computerized (mine was on 2734) and have a "boot-up" procedure they go through to zero themselves out prior to starting. -

I disconnected the new voltmeter and plugged the ammeter back in. Turning the key to the "on" position produces a few "clicks" at the tach and caused the needle to vibrate. May have always happened before, just noticed it after the voltmeter install. Where are the starter inhibit relays located?

Blas - tach still clicks when key is turned on, and the needle pins itself against the stop, then returns to normal. Did not feel anything at the relay. Tach works fine otherwise.
