Default Anyone Used a Prepurchase Inspection Service

Hey folks,

I am interested in a car and may have a sale pending. I don't have the ability to fly out to see the car. Can anyone recommend a good prepurchase inspection service that would be able to perform a decent inspection on a specialty car like the Cobra?

Thanks!

Try asking in the ClubCobra region where the car is if anyone is available to look at it for you?

There are usually auto inspection services via assorted national(online) auto inspection co's. The rates run from $150. to $400., depending on inspection detail requested. If Mick's idea doesn't work out. Good luck

Becareful when you order a pre-purchase inspection, there is no standardization for pre-purchase inspections. Most buyers don't know the difference between an "ASE Technician" and an "ASE Master Technician". This difference will affect the quality and accuracy of a pre-purchase inspection.

Differences between technicians are explained in depth at "UsedCarInspections.ORG". This consumer site has helpful tips and information on how to select an automotive technician and what type of information you should receive from a pre-purchase inspection.

Where is the car located? If it is a Superformance the owners group (SCOF) has members located all over that could inspect for you and are of course familiar with the Superformance product. PM or call me (716.407.0975) for details.

Bannon.......agree with Mark IV as a first approach. If using a commercial source, important they possess the knowledge and experience to appraise/evaluate a Cobra replica. Ask for multiple examples of their Cobra replica appraisals and check with these owners. Hemmings has a number of appraisal sources, but may not be identified as to Cobra replica car expertise.

If desiring to establish a reference point on price, make, features, etc:

I have had mechanicals checked by a dealership for certain cars (e.g. Audi) but have not used a preinspection service. Good to hear about CARCHECK.

Agree with others to seek if there is a SPF owner near the car. Many of us have done inspections.

In part your approach should be tailored to your concerns. For example if the car has an 8 stack injection unit and you want to be sure it is properly functioning, no vacuum issues with brakes, etc then you need a very specific resource. Or if you are concerned about cosmetics that is a different solution.

Mark IV already volunterred to connect you with an owner through SCOF. Possibly one of us may know of the car so provide him the details.

Jeff

Bannon,

Where exactly is the car you are considering located? That would be a big help.

Agreed - location is key , and figuring out if the car is a Known car, or a mystery deal. - then I am sure that - between Club Cobra and a variety of other sources one could get it checked out -- One thing that would help is a chassis # so you know what level of equipment ( on the car ) to expect.
