Default license plate frame

I have a neighbor with a 2006 Mark III and I have a 2010 Mark III. I wanted to use the Shelby Motors license plate frame with the blue background that he is using, but it would not fit between the license plate light and the trunk handle. After measuring the two cars, the distance between the license plate light and the trunk handle is approximately 1/4" longer on his car than on my car, thus the frame fits his but not mine. The trunk handle and the license plate light/license plate hold look the same between the two cars. One would think that the mounting holes between the two cars would be in the same location by a jig during construction or is there an adustment that can be made to pick-up the additional 1/4". By the way, I have tried other license plate frames including the one with a narrow edge; they all have the same problem. Comments.

There are two styles of the $helby license plate frames out there.
The frame with 4 mounting holes does not fit on a SPF.
The frame with 2 top mounting holes fits the SPF.
So the Finish Line frame with 4 hole frame does not fit… they no longer carry the one with only two mounting holes.

I have the style with 2 top mounting holes and it did not fit my SPF as-is. However, I was able to do a little crimping to the top edge of the plate frame right under the light bracket to persuade it to fit. Very snug, but it does fit.

Why would you want to put a SHELBY license plate frame on a Superformance replica? That's like putting a Freightliner frame on a Peterbuilt, isn't it? (here it comes)

For Tony Branda: I purchased the frame from you under invoice # 247076 Part number LPF1. It has only two holes and doesn't fit.

For Chucks 1: Thanks for the suggestion; I considered this.

For Slither: I have a 2008 GT 500 that is Vin Numbered as a Shelby. Is it a true Shelby even though it is made purely by Ford but has Shelby only on the trunk? I know it has Cobras a number of places, but would a purest say it is a Shelby? OK I could ship it back to Vegas and after $30K + is it now a Shelby because it has a Shelby Las Vegas sticker in the engine compartment? Intesting who is building the new roadster/slabside who is selling them? If you want to comment on another item, what do you think of the owners who have a 351 stroked and put a 427 emblem on their cars. I want to appoligize for putting the 1965 Shelby Cobra steering wheel center and front and rear emblems on the car. Are Freighliners now Volvos? Thanks for your comments.

Beemer,

For Gods sake, WHY would you want to make it something that it's not? I'm curious ! It is what it is and nothing more.

I found on my MKIII that if you loosen the license light fixture that you can squeeze it up a couple of mm , and fit some plate frames you could not normally fit. -

I saw the 65 -427 Shelby Cobra's new and never saw one with a 472 Alum fuel injected engine! Give me a break! Its just a license frame! Beemer. I have a 1965 ORGINAL Shelby pitted license frame on my Superformance and it fits perfect.

Better read a little closer there TN Shelby Cobra. I never stated that my Shelby had an original motor in it. I don't have a 1965 ORIGINAL Superformance plate on my Shelby either! Don't read between the lines. GEEZ, so hostile!

I bought one of the Finishline frames for my ERA. I had to modify the bottom of the frame to make it fit. I used a small diameter sanding drum to cut a radiused relief in the bottom edge to clear the trunk handle. It then fit perfectly and I don't think anyone can notice the alteration I made. (I also put some adhesive backed foam rubber weather stripping behind the tag and frame to prevent rattling or paint damage.)

Good luck!

Hal

I don't know if this will work on a SPF but I have made several tag brackets out of stainless for other Cobra. The last one I made out of 1/8" stainless and bend it on a sheetmetal brake, box pan. The others I welded, harder and takes a lot longer.

To ERA 778. I took your advice and modified the frame. Last Sunday I was in Sarasota FL for a car show and there was a burgandy ERA with ghost stripes parked next to but not in the show. It was factory built and very nicely done.
