Bilsteins ; Updated Valving -

Greetings, - I am working on an offering of updated Bilsteins for SPF cars ( say SPF 1300 onward ) that would be a bit more compliant (forgiving) for street driven cobras.

How would they differ from the Shock/Spring packages offered by Performance Unlimited? And what changed around car 1300 to offer a solution for only car 1300 and up (I ask 'cuz mine is 1019)?

Randy - I am working with Herman at Wilbers on their Daytona Shocks, and we learned a lot about the bilsteins at that time, i was looking to have the R&D payoff with valving street versions of Bilsteins to take the edge off a bit as the stock units seem to rattle the car a bit. -

Potential offerings;

1. Revalved OE SPF billsteins - IE revamp customers shocks on an exchange basis based on car weight(s).

2. Wilbers or Penske shocks with new springs - with various rates of tune.

wanted a good if not great shock option that would be great handling but not rattle your teeth out. - there are so many things you can do with valve adjustments.

keep in mind the SPF shock is valved for a car that has either a iron bigblock, or a aluminum smallblock - the factory ships the same shock, with the same valving.

I replaced my stock bilsteins and springs with the cobra valley adjustable shocks with 350 lb springs in order to stiffen up my SPF.

The stock bilstein shocks and springs made it ride like a caddy over bumps. Much better now.

For street driving, springs and shock valving will vary greatly depending on where you live because of the types and quality of road surfaces.
That is what makes it tricky.

In my area softer vs. stiffer will work better.
I do appreciate the stock Bilsteins and spring rates because of the road quality and types of roads in my area. They really are pretty decent when balanced and set up correctly.
If I put stiffer springs and shocks on my car it would just wind up the chassis more when hitting bumps and dips. So in essence all would be doing is transferring More impact from the road directly into the chassis of the car.
Kind of like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I have custom Bilsteins on my cobra, and as has been mentioned its important to valve the shock to suit the springs, which relate to the cars weight.
