Default Early master cylinder?

After suffering an fire in the engine compartment (leaking fuel filter) last summer, my beloved SPF023 is almost back on the road. New hood, paint, wiring, etc. has been a long journey...virtually nothing on the prototype is the same as the production cars. The hood had to be sectioned to fit, wiring redone wire-by-wire, parts chased down, and so on.

Thanks to Blas for his wiring diagram, Mike and Jack at Chassis Masters for great body work, paint, and engine work, and Jim at Hughes Automotive for the wiring and brake work.

Two things remain...I need a new master cylinder and a new directional switch.

The directional switch has a part number (yeah!) 83BG12B302BA from a mid-eighties UK Ford Sierra. No problem getting one in the UK, but does anyone know where I might find one in the US?

The origin of the master cylinder remains unknown. Does anyone know what was used on the early SPF cars?

Try BAT Inc. British American Transfer

They deal in Euro Ford parts. The Sierra sold here was the Merkur XR4Ti, but I am not sure the switch was the same due to the multi functions used on the switch. BAT should be able to tell you and supply the part.

Also the number on the switch is a Ford engineering number that must be crossed to a part number. A dealer will not recognize that number.

Hi Bill, glad to hear it's almost back together. I looked at your car at Funspot. It's neat your sticking with the original prototype parts where you can. Do you have a picture/number or anything on the master? Bring it over Sunday morning to the open house and I'll see if any of the local car guys know. There may be an SPF or two to compare with ;-)

Thanks, Mickmate.....I have a comittment Sunday, but I'll see if I can rearrange it and drop by.

I decided years ago that, because it is a unique car, I should always keep it as close to original as reasonable. So it's still plain (but bright!) red...still the old 289 (but freshly painted with new carb, distributor, coil, air cleaner, etc...still those clever fake Halibrands...still that clunky-looking Sierra steering column. And I love it for all of that.

It's been a long wait, but the good news is that the guys have done outstanding work. The car looks a LOT better now than it did when you saw it, and this was the time to take care of a couple other things while it was torn down. I hope...if we can get these last couple parts quickly...to take it to the Granite State show on the 29th.

ATE master on car 522. The rebuild kit is NAPA part 1168. The resivor cap is ATE part W0133-1635003 which I bought from auto parts warehouse.com. I don't have the master cylinder part number but it's common on many European imports from the 80s.
