Long distance ride
I'm leaving Friday morning September 7th from Parkville Md. to Harwich Ma. It my annual vacation to my Mom"s place on Cape Cod. The distance is 500 miles door to door. I'm figuring about nine hours to do this. My endurance is not a problem. What spare parts should I consider carrying or just wing it? If I break down anyone on the I95 corridor should be able to find me by the loud cussing. My wife is the smart one she's flying because of a sciatic problem. I'll send an update from my I Phone as I progess along the route. No I'm not dumb enough to do the Cross Bronx Expressway. Garden State Parkway to 287 over the TappanZee Bridge, then on the Merritt Parkway to I95 in Milford Ct. I will leave a patch of rubber in front of Factory Five.

I wouldn't worry too much about what parts you might need, so long as the car is in good shape. I'd focus on a few tools to ensure fittings are tight and any leaks are dealt with. I've driven several 500 milers and never had a problem, but I have had a few fittings and bolts loosen up. Take your time and enjoy the ride.

Wiring diagram and list of parts used on your install (Slave cylinder, hoses, etc.)
Do you have an MSD or a Duraspark? Duraspark available any auto parts house, MSD not so much....................

Since I don't carry a spare I bring a tire plug kit (hole inserts with the tool to punch in the insert). I also have channel locks and cutters. This would be useless without a small air compressor, so I have a jumper/compressor box in my trunk.
I did 300 miles round-trip with absolutely no issues. Check the oil and coolant before you go and on the road. Gallon of coolant and a few quarts of oil not a bad idea, too.
Have fun. I took my son on our long trip and he really enjoyed it. First time over the Golden Gate with a convertible. Very cool.
Cheers,
DD

Two years ago we took a month long trip in our Cobra.
Small tool kit. Fix a flat kit and small air compressor.
Didn't need any of it.

Fun trip
347stroker Tom Like others have said, a basic tool box with a compete MSD distributor. If it's the other one, do the same. Coil and fan belt should be about it. Make sure the oil levels are full in the trans and rearend. Go over the car and do a quick check of nuts and bolts for being tight. If you have anything loose, a 500 mile cruise will knock it off going through NJ and NY. They are doing construction on both GWB and Tappen bridge at night. I would tell you to leave real early to hit these bridges before traffic gets clogged. Don't forget, Football and Baseball games also cause more traffic. I hope it doesn't rain. Stop about every 200 miles for gas and yoga. Have a safe trip. If you have a problem you have a bunch of CC guys along your route. Gas $3.70 per gallon. If you go Parkway and pay cash the toll booths are 3,4,5, and red signs going both ways or look for a line. Safe trip. Ps I guess you have done LOF and grease front end?? Make sure front wheel bearing are just a little bit of play and not alot. If you have time this would also be a good idea to do. Later Rick L. Pss I will listen for you to go by on the NJTurnpike. Or you can stop at the Molley Pitcher. I live behind it, about 1,000 yards. Phone # 732-254-3536 if you run into trouble. I work friday.

Rick thanks for the phone #. I just went from L I over the cross Bronx in my truck. Miserable ride. At the Outerbridge or the GW they hit 18 wheelers $65 to cross!!! Then its $35 at the Throgs Neck!!! All this money to drive on the worst roads in the country. If there is a politician on CC give me a call at 410-456-2158 and I'll give you an earful.

You may be joining your wife with Sciata after this trip, these are not cruisers, risk of rock and windsheild cracks etc take the shine off of it. What are you going to do in a rains storm? Go rent a mustang gt convertible, have a worry free blast with ac if needed and a roof if it rains.

These cars are Great Cruisers. Who really cares about a little road rash?
They are just fun cars, not investments.
I will be driving mine close to 1000 miles Thursday-Monday.
Fix a flat (never needed it yet)
Misc. tools (minor stuff)
Cash

Ah, yes, but you'd be kick'n yourself in the @$$ if you did need it and didn't bring it.
Compressor and tire repair kit are permanent fixtures in my trunk.
Just in case.

Maxx after piloting a tractor trailer for over four million miles since 1975 I can handle five hundred miles. I remember when the interstate system wasn't finished and we had to go through all the little tow2ns. Life was interesting.
